Just a reminder of a speech 16 months ago from a government minister that made it perfectly clear that the port and townspeople must work together in future and that townspeople must be represented on the board. So far no sign of either happening.

I am up for changes and updates of the POW Pier, but there is a BIG but ... The Town needs it guaranteed that one will be build.
Looking at the plans .. I think it is impossible to add the arm on to the pier as it is suggested in the Broschure.
I am no expert but looking at it, its not thought through it properly. Wondering what have been taken into account when making the plans.
Also reading the Brosure, very positive indeed... too much positivity makes room for suspicion.
It will be very interesting what the outcome will be. I for one be sad as I go there quite alot with my friends and people who visit me. Where i go next... Folkstone it will be .. ???

Agree Heike, we are not against development but we want it to be a good development, we want every detail to be clear from the outset and we want to know exactly where the 140 jobs to be safeguarded are, and who will be the employer of the 600 new positions apparently to be created. 'Safeguarding 140 jobs' sounds like blackmail to me.

Me too Heike, but this video is so cleverly done. It really touches a nerve with the local references to the seal, cafe etc.

Mr Tedder believes every word coming from DHB, even against all previous evidence, the rest of Dover is a little less convinced!

Well over 300 objecting and 2 in favour, the problem as I understand is that only one person can speak against the application at the committee meeting, I nominate Peter.

Thank you Howard, but it's up to the council. You have to submit an application to speak and the council decides whose application is granted. In addition any district councillor is permitted to speak but the applicant has the right to nominate as many speakers as the antis.

When you say the council is that officers or councillors Peter?
I would prefer it to be councillors as the officers seem in thrall to anything DHB come up with, their press officer posted on Facebook words to the effect that the plan was wonderful news for Dover when the new application first came up.
Another thing that bothers me is that Planning officers have this massive book of rules that guide their decision, emotional objections hold no sway but technicalities and legalities would put them under pressure. Only you and 3 others have posted objections that could sway the committee.

I also support the DHB more jobs and the pier will reopen when all the work is done .You have to trust what they say

The town has been trusting DHB for years and the result has been more traffic, more dosh for the bosses, broken promises and hundreds fewer jobs. The leopard has not changed its spots, Vic, just got better at propaganda.

Sorry but we must all move with the times and if the port stands still and does not move forward it will fall behind in trade etc like other ports which now see no trade or not much.I have no wish to fall out with anyone over this ,but that is just how I see it ,We only have to go back to the 1950s when Dover had only one ferry crossing over just think if the D,H,B, had not moved on then, where would the port be today so I do trust them they still keep the sea front looking nice most of the time ,so all I am saying lets just wait and see,but at my age I might not be around that long, I hope so with all the new builds going on in and around Dover I can see the town growing and moving forward in the way of jobs and it will be the in place to live and work .

I fail to understand how anyone could trust anything that the DHB publicity machine turns out, to put it bluntly they only think of themselves and bugger how it affects Dovorians or the area.
How many of these supposedly new jobs will go to those living in this area of Kent, if they are like the ferries the new workers will come from all over the country.
