I must agree with the above post, tolling our rds is nothing new ,they were going to do it years ago,but the Goverment know, what ever we do,over in France and in the EU will do the same, and that will mean our lorrys will have to end up paying more then the lorrys from over there,we are very small and if you look at the EU they have 100s more rds then we have so the UK companys will end up paying more. Sorry but all this think that the Goverment is on a one to one with all that send letters to them is also not right,we all get back letters from them, they are all the same with just your name on top.We all have done it over many years, and it is good we do,but please do not think that they will act on just one person and their letter. They going to make overseas drivers now pay from May £1000 per year to drive on our Rds,you wait and see now what our drivers will pay over there it will end up alot more in one way or the other. At is very time I am looking at a two page letter, with the heading Dear Vic,and it is sighed off by a party leader.I know he has not even seen it himself.
If it makes you feel better thinking you are on a one to one with members or a dept of Goverment thats Ok,but in the real world that is not so.

As you know I would like the port of Dover to stay in the safe hands of the Royal Charter, worked by a D,H,B. I have send out letters talked at public meetings about ,to Mr Wiggins and the MP even been on Radio five, and the B,B,C TV news about it.If that was to happen and it does stay the way I would like to see it.I know for a fact that would not have happen because of anything I have said or done,it might happen if 15000 others have said it as well but not just because old Vic Matcham said it.

Vic, DPPT are on a one-to-one with various ministers and lords of various colours, and with financial institutions.
As for me, I limited my involvement to the Public Consultation.
From the start (March 2010) the DfT informed me my views were being taken into consideration.
As for tolls, Vic, please read my previous relevant posts on this which carry official statements from the DfT and a reference to the Chancellor George Osborne, as printed in the Press.
It will save you jumping to very long and erroneous conclusions, and save me repeating myself in a never-ending circle.
The DfT are looking into tolling, Vic, whether you like it or not.

alex
kent county council sent proposals to the government some time back on road tolls, additionally i would think that organisations other than dppt are also having discussions with ministers and the department for transport.

Just looked at page 3 of this thread-the same old stuff gets thrashed around apparently ad infinitum and nothing wiill be resolved until , inevitably the totally correct DPPT finally gets behind the desk at the Port of Dover...then Dover will be much more than a shadow of its former self-it will be a super town.
Kieth you apparently give us 2 choices-really there is no contest is there? Surely being on talking terms with ministers is an advantage? Then there's responding to a consultation-I know where I'd put my money.
Never give up...

Ref post from Vic most lorries on the continent can run that sum up in less than a month. For example in France it costs 400 euros to run an 18ton rigid down to the Mont Blanc tunnel. It costs 168 euros to run the same vehicle from Aachen to Frankfurt in Germany.

Yep, Tom, been explaining this for about three years now: all lorries pay road tolls in most European countries, and tunnel tolls too, including the Mont Blanc (and not only). As do cars for that matter.
In fact tunnel tolls are very expensive in the Alps.
It's probably only Britain where no tolling is done.
Howard, I must have written that on the Forum a few times, including two years ago, that Kent County Council also started asking the Government to introduce a vehicle toll at Dover Port, about 1 year after my first representation, which was in Feb 2010.
In fact, KCC and I had contacts over this, in which they explained their position and how much they were suggesting be paid as a toll for cars, and I explained my position and proposals.
Practically we gave each other courage to continue asking the Government for a road toll at Dover Port.
But one difference is, my proposal also includes local regeneration.
As we can see from Vic's post, not everyone is aware that tolling is a major source of income in Europe, and some are misled to think that if we introduced a toll, we would be at "economic war" with Europe, with "counter-actions".
Totally misleading there, Vic. Very sad!

There is already a toll on every vehicle and passenger traveling through dover docks. Lorry car or coach. The port tax. This is where Dhb gets its money from. that and berthing fees.

Andy, the existing DHB incomes have to remain.
But an added toll needs to be introduced to finance Town and District regeneration.
THIS IS MY MOST FINAL POST ON THE TOPIC! AMEN

Alexander D wrote:Probably not, Howard. Tolling is a new idea the Government is considering introducing, as I've just pointed out above.
...and there was me thinking there was a Dartford Crossing aka the Highways Agency aka the Government has already had told for many years..... tolling is nothing new and nothing to do with your letters Alex

i don't think you have been following this keith it is not a battle between neil and alex for control of the port. thus far only the d.h.b propsal. has been on the table so to speak. there must be many organisations champing at the bit to get their hands on the port.
only the government department would know who the various rivals are.
