The difference of course with Calais and Dover is that Calais is flat and has lots of room - all the new redevopment there is so much easier, but the planning stage is so very important, which I believe we should start now.
It is as you say PaulB, a very important and significant step forward.

There seems to be much greater cohesion between all the main players recently..DHB and DDC etc...and dare one say it, even HMG. The story on the frontpage confirms this increased cohesion, which can only be for the benefit of us all in the long run. As has been stressed its all related to economic conditions being right, but you can see why, as the expense involved looks daunting.

This has to be good news lets just take it as a piece of good news, and not just condemn before its even got off the planning board with doom and gloom,

The person's port takeover.
OK, will the person have a rail terminal built?
Moreover, with whose money?

If Mr. Waggott confirms all this, Brian, then it will undoubtedly appear in the local papers.
The person's port receiving money from the City to build T2 at Western Docks.
Hold on, if DHB have the terminal built before said takeover, then this leaves the question unanswered, Brian:
DHB haven't said they would borrow money from the City to built the terminal.
Hence my question: with whose money will the terminal be built, if this is to come about under DHB?
And when will the terminal be completed in time for the handover to the person's port?

Howard, T2 is not remotely imminent and in all likelihood will never be built. The reasons for Folkestone Fixings having to move were explained by Neil on the thread below:
"The works that will happen and which have caused the exit of Folkestone Fixings are changes that the DHB had to agree to carry out within three years of being granted the HRO to develop the Western docks. They were the condition imposed by DDC and the Environment Agency before these organisations would drop their objections to the entire T2 HRO. These works will therefore have to proceed whether or not T2 is actually going to happen - The DHB made a legal commitment to carry them out and any successor will be bound by that agreement."

Does this mean there won't be a person's port takeover?

Alex, if you mean your mythical rail terminal then nobody has any plans for one so the money is not a problem. All that DHB and DPPT have said is that land has been set aside for any small rail interface should future developments make it desirable. There are railway tunnels under the sea and the railway lines no longer end at Dover so there is no call for a rail terminal.
If you mean the hypothetical T2 terminal, then the DfT outlined several ways of financing this to DHB in their letter giving their reasons for turning down the DHB privatisation proposal.

That's good news, it means the Government accepted my rail link to Dover Port proposal which I made in my representation starting Feb. 2010.
Thanks for the info, Ed. I'll update my website with the good tidings.
I always knew the Government was eyeing with interest my representations to the Department for Transport.
