A rail link to the Port, Vic, has nothing to do with a Port takeover, which is a separate issue.
But in March 2010 the DfT did inform me they were taking into consideration my rail link proposal.
If the current works near Western Docks are in preparation for a future rail link, as Ed says, then this is good news.

nothing has officially changed since the letter last september inviting d.h.b. to submit a further proposal.
attitudes have changed at d.h.b. since the changes at management level, mr waggott stated recently that the port and the town were one and the same which was a new one on me as up until then the opposite had been made very clear.

as for the ffx yard the harbour board brought it from hover speed then leased it to ffx.now the dhb have it back again,so that work on the prince of wales roundabout can be changed into a traffic light junction, along with union street work will be in preparation for t2.the work is a 3 sided affair, dhb, ddc and highways.this is a condition in the planning requirements for t2,all work in that area will be finished by the end of 2014.

I said nothing of the sort, Alex. How on earth do you arrive at that?
The roadworks are in preparation for terminal T2 which is very unlikely to materialise. Nothing whatsoever to do with a rail link, which is also very unlikely to happen. The first/second/third round consultation documents from 2006/2007/2008 all mention leaving open the possibility of incorporating a rail connection, with land reserved on Shakespeare Beach.

If there is to be a change of ownership of the Port, as has been suggested, perhaps the Government will be deciding to transfer ownership to a local council.
That way it would become owned by the local Community!

In fact, the absence of any declaration after the DPPT meeting last week would suggest the said transfer to Community ownership will be other than previously thought.

A good lesson in why a council should never be trusted to run a port. If you have just one customer you don't allow him to run up a debt of that magnitude without cast iron security.

The Thanet Councillor is incorrect - T2 is not imminent.

that's a let down neil, i was fully expecting it to be up and running for next spring, that will teach me to pay heed to councillors.

i remember reading that thanet were trying to safeguard jobs but the onboard crew were all slovenian and rarely ventured into town to spend any money.
