The two ports are intrinsic and should grow together,so most of what you say is important for Dover/Deal.
The part about Calais have their own Cruise Terminal is not so good though. Better connections via Orly Airport and the Tunnel, better sea position for the Med and North Sea.It could be opposition to Dover C.T.

It will indeed be opposition to Dover's cruise terminals and cruise business Gary, this is why we need to be on top of our regeneration and have someone looking after the Town now and moving Dover forward, setting in place initiatives that will turn Dover round and turn it into a bright, clean more welcoming Town and a (tourist) destination too.

Roger.
Margate has been in the doldrums for many years now but it will be turned around in the next few years, emerging as the holiday destination of the south coast. This will bring in many new visitors to the area.
This also will be good for Dover/Deal, providing that they have something offer.
Give them a reason to visit.

We will not see T2 for ten years yet if ever, there is no need for it at this time, some newbuild within the port might be on the cards which would be good, but as for T2 its a big no to that at this time.

As above Vic - if it is needed in 10 years then it won't suddenly appear, it will need a lot of planning and work to happen.
Been nice knowing you :)

Vic.
We all know it is not needed yet and maybe never needed.
That does not mean you do not plan for the future.
T2 is the future for the docks and something to prepare for, even if it never goes ahead.
Dover should have the same outlook, prepare for the future.

PS.
I know many are trying to prepare for the future of Dover but more support is needed to make it happen.

I agree with the both of you,but the way they put it both on the TV and in the locals today, that it is going to bring 100s of jobs very soon, and to some who have no jobs ,are thinking "At last light at the end of the tunnel" and sorry but that is not the case.

I cannot understand how someone who is 'elected' into positions of responsibiliy can be so negative about everything rather than working constructively for the benefit of the people they represent....

Been nice knowing you :)

Vic hasn't been elected into any position Paul - he was co-opted.
My posting on the previous page was made up of facts, not conjecture; it is what many organisations/bodies around Europe and Asia are working on: Trans-Siberia Railway, Port of Calais improvements and regeneration etc. including the rail-head.
Dover will have to have a Port to match Calais, so planning and funding will have to start asap.

Roger you wrong again I have never been co-opted on any council, I was in all Elections of seats but no one came forward to take me on. Please get your facts right before posting THANK YOU.
Mr Matcham you were born for forums and committees....because the actual subject is never discussed, since you have a complete talent for tossing every subject out of objective into subjective....
In other words you make every meeting/thread/committee your own, so nothing gets discussed or agreed................
You should have been Lloyd-George....or perhaps you were

i thought that if you were on a commitee or council without being voted on that it would be a case of being co-opted.

Co-opted means you are asked. Vic was elected but without a vote being cast as there are no other contenders, so both mean the person is not chosen by the constituents.

These last few posts have now nothing to do with the Ferry Terminal but have turned instead, to Vic. How clever (or annoying) is that ?

If there is a future conversion to increased transport of freight by rail, this will take place at international level, as Roger points out.
Therefore Dover would give proof of being Britain's first Port by opening the door to rail at Western Docks and not going in the completely wrong direction, which would be to put everything on road-transport.
It all depends on good planning in advance, which is why my representation to the Ministry of Transport proposes the rail link.
In fact, to build a T2 dedicated solely to road transport, and only afterwards realise that it should have been designed for rail, would have been the repetition of Burlington House 1000 times worse!
We must get this one right, and I am sure the Ministry for Transport will make the right decision in regards to the type of T2 needed.

Back to the news on the Second Ferry Terminal...
I have just added to the frontpage the latest statement just in from Dover District Council on the second ferry terminal...very positive...worth noting in particular the quote from Pauli Watkins himself.
Many thanks to the guys at DDC as ever for sending the info through.
