There are some blips along the way, but traffic is generally on the up and Dover is never not going to be the nearest place to the continent...
Been nice knowing you :)

Main story on Meridian News tonight, good publicity for DHB and Dover. If it is ever built it looks like it will be very impressive.

Surely the threads are related? I was under the impression T2 could not be built without financial backing which would come from pritisation. If there is now an agreement for T2 to be built then it is more likely they will end up agreeing to the pritivitsation providing a new company agrees to build it. I don't know the ins and outs of this so pls correct me if I am wrong?

Though the permission has been given it is very unlikely it will be built for many years if at all, as for the funding the Eastern Docks has developed from cranes lifting cars on to ferries on the Eastern Arm to what it is today, no privatisation was needed for that!

They do not put £400million by to do all that ,and then sell the port for £300million,the P/Port is now dead, they could not get what I would say around £600million or even more to buy the port. I do not go along with the D.H.B. doing it,but they might, but again the port staying a royal one now looks very good, the Royal Charter will need updating to help Dover more, but that can be done.

No matter how big the Port has become, or how lucrative....
Dover has not flourished........
I just wish they could tunnel from Eastern to Western Docks........so the Town can ceased to be split..............
As it stands and looks like it will carry on.....
This Port is no good to Dover whatsoever....

Well there you saw it just one view there, both Peter and the Dover MP both supporters of the P/Port so that report was very one sided, but that does not matter, because the P/Port will never get off the ground now.

Government's decision for a T2 to be built, for when the need should arise, is probably step 1 for a rail link to Western Docks.

No Alex, the rail link to Europe goes through that hole in the ground at Cheriton.

Peter, the Eastern Docks cater for freight traffic by road, as too does the Channel Tunnel.
If long-term strategy for freight shifts more towawds rail owing to pollution poblems and the cost of oil (petrol), Dover would lose out if we excluded a rail link to T2, where-as the Channel Tunnel would be the only port in South East England offering comprehensive facilities for freight.
Would this benefit Dover?
Think it over, Peter!

Alexander is right.
If the Labour Councillors attended last night's Full Council meeting (wasn't quite a full meeting though) they would have seen and heard a presentation about Calais Port development and how it very importantly ties in with ours; there was also a presentation on the latest, as regards DTIZ.
Calais Port is moving ahead and is not just upgrading but increasing in capacity, including taking cruise ships; they are also working on a rail-head for freight that comes from rail all around Europe and beyond - even as far away as China.
The Trans-Siberian railaway is being upgraded too, to enable frieght to come from China - picking up and dropping off freight at different countries on the way.
If T2 is not worked up now, we will miss the boat (pardon the pun !). Calais and Dover Ports are integrally linked; Calais is switched on to the future needs more than we are and also switched on more as regards European funding, which we will have to look at seriously too - and not waste years thinking this doesn't need to be done now - it does.
These major developments take years and the funding for them can take a long time too.
The Port and T2 need developing and funding now, so the Peoples Port will also have to start looking to Europe for funding too; Neil I understand is knowledgable about how to go about this ?
We can't keep out heads in the sand, we must look to the future - Dover needs to too.
