A timely boost for DHB, the significant line though is " when market conditions require its construction " not any time soon I would have thought.

Yes I noticed that proviso too Martin, but I suppose that's fair enough. Continental Europe is suffering greatly as indeed we are here, the euro problems have been much documented, as have the problems with Seafrance, but growth over the longer term is assured I would think.

As I forcast last year, that the P/Port will not happen, and in my way of thinking it should stay a Royal port, but still think it will be sold off by the DHB way.

don't think that has any relevance vic, the approval for terminal 2 would still apply whoever owns the port.

No Charlie it will take over the hoverport, PoW pier and much of the existing Western Docks.

If you go into the DHB on the sea front you will see a rather Impressive model of what it will look like in the foyer

What a total waste of money, why do they need another Terminal? No 3 berth on refit No 5 not used, when it was it was only the NPC may be twice a day No 1 berth sits empty. I don't see any boats queuing up for berths

It's known as future planning - may not be needed now but in 20 years it may be too late to start doing something!! Similar arguement to Boris Island....
Been nice knowing you :)

beat me to it paul, it is only permission that has been obtained, no money has been spent.
i would think it likely to be at least 10 years before traffic volumes would make the harbour board look at the situation.

It will only be build if there is a need for it,that still could be ten years away,if at all.

It may be 10 year until there is the traffic, but there could be a 5 year construction time so would need to be constructed in 5 years....

You could be right,I do not know, but going on what is happing today in the UK,it will not happen for avery long time,we might see some new builds but not the birth yet,as it has already been said there is room for them at the other end.

It is, as I have said before, a paper exercise, that has cost (or wasted) ££££££'s, just to get the go ahead, in writing.
Please don't get me wrong. I would love to see its expansion, if ever the need arises.
The question is, will the Port ever reach that potential?
On the other hand, this announcement could benefit Dover/Deal by giving future investors, the confidence, that future planning is being taken seriously.
I could never see the sense in spending £millions on the Turner Project in Margate but it has opened doors to other funding that will transform Margate and rejuvenate it.
Forward thinking!!!!!

this thread is nothing to do with it vic.
you are just hi-jacking it to get your own view across on another issue.

Vic, #18, if you had said anything different you could have knocked me down with a feather.
