- 1 May 2012 07:32169655The AIDA Luna is back in today...I can just make it out through the gloom. Unfortunately cruise passengers have been met with horrendous weather in and around Dover lately...I heard through the grapevine that several passengers were very nervous going out on the cruises recently, some terrified at facing the Bay of Biscay at the moment, some even took their luggage back off some of the ships and went home.
There might be a lesson here..early cruising is not for the fainthearted, or for those with rubbery sealegs.

Next will be the MSC Poesia and the Deutschland on Thursday May3rd, both PoC's followed by the Braemar again on Saturday, TR, and the Ryndam on Sunday also a TR.
There will be three in on Tuesday the 8th, Braemar TR again, obviously out on a three day cruise, Emerald Princess and Princess Daphne both PoC's, so lots of cruise activity at Western docks coming up. It seems cruising is as popular as ever despite recent mishaps although there are a few who are now quite wary. I also heard, as PaulB says above, that some passengers at Dover very recently, decided not to brave the elements at the very last minute. - 1 May 2012 14:54169716not seen this before must have been done recently.
quite a good idea as it sends the message to our visitors that the dereliction they have passed through is not part of dover.

There is a truly awesome monster in today...in laymans terms... its a whopper!!
The MSC Poesia has made a return and what a sight! All fans of large cruise liners should see this one. Many will remember it from its maiden voyage from here several years ago.
Sadly the weather is abysmal all murk and gloom but I got a passable picture of it at 5.50am this morning. Have given the picture a penetrating boost as it was shrouded in gloom as it arrived. Here she is manoevring into position earlier this morning...

Perhaps she is out there lost in the mist..but wait I see a tugboat moving across the bay. Perhaps she has been spotted..and very welcome, bringing more of those German tourists who have been giving us a great boost lately. I cant see any further than the pier right now so we wait and see.

Interestingly 2 tugboats are helping it into harbour and will no doubt help it to dock up. The giant Poesia in comparison needed no help from the tugboats at all..and its about four/six times bigger. I suppose its modern technology at work, although huge the big one is probably lighter to manoeuvre.
