Reminds me of Oscar Wilde's quote: 'I much prefer Italian ships - none of that women & children first nonsense.'

Although the AIDAluna is registered in Italy, AIDA is the premier cruise brand in Germany so not surprising that the majority of passengers are German. AIDA is part of the US Carnival Corporation, whose brands include Cunard and P&O (UK), AIDA (Germany), Costa (Italy), Carnival (US), Holland America (US), Princess (US), Windstar (US), and Seabourn (US). Of course, cruising attracts a very international clientele, but the majority of passengers will reflect the home country of each brand.

Thanks for all that info above Kevin...always good to have information like that coming in.
Another cruise liner just arriving as I write. Its the Fred Olsen one...The Braemer, sister ship to the ship currently engaged in re-creating the notorious Titanic journey ( The Balmoral) which was all over the news all week.

Well done with the excellent pictures lads. Really good.
That one is very topical John..the two ships together. Heard a report on BBC Radio this morning that the Balmoral...on the right in the shot above, has now arrived at the site of the Titanic sinking. The 1300 passengers and crew have gathered on her deck and are taking part in a service of remembrance.
There is also another cruise liner at the location too, that one came from New York..it didnt say the name of the vessel.

It seems there's quite a fleet of vessels of various sizes visiting the Titanic site. The other cruise ship is the Azamara Journey. She departed from New York and guess what? ...... she's due to make a one-off call to Dover on May 12th. However, she has been here before - as the Renaissance Cruises R6.

Here is a picture of the AIDA Luna aborting its attempt at the last moment to enter the harbour in rough conditions this morning.
More on the frontpage. Two cruise liners scheduled..one now in, one out.
I can only get restricted pictures at the moment due to technical difficulties beyond my control.

A quick look at
http://marinetraffic.com/ais reveals that the AIDALuna aborted her attempt about 300 yards off the Eastern entrance, hovered for a while about 3 miles offshore then headed off east. She is now bound for Antwerp at 16.3kt.

Good bit of info there Peter thanks for that..we have a link coming through to this thread from the frontpage so info like that very useful..very difficult manouvre to swerve out with just 300 yards to go for a Liner that size. Conditions here are horrendous at the moment. Scary conditions to be honest.
Yes Gary that link was put up before too by Peter and I have it in my link favourites too, its an excellent site.

Paul, a depressing picture on the Front Page of the coaches waiting to drive away from the town. Before long the cruise ships will be relocating to Tilbury anyway so it's probably too late to do anything to attract them.

With the crane and luggage trolleys on the quayside that looks more like a turnaround day on the front page.
Every cruise line will have tour coaches waiting at every port of call, the customers expect it. Some will have chosen the cruise because of a particular attraction that they'll be taken to on a day trip, some will be repeat customers wanting to go somewhere they haven't been before, some will just book any tour because they like to have everything arranged and be looked after, some will book a tour because it's easier/cheaper than trying to do two or three venues independently, and some will want to do their own thing and make their own way into town.
The way to the cruise ship passengers is through the port agent for the cruise line who will arrange everything months or years in advance.

My daughter used to be employed down there guiding US tourists arriving via Heathrow from their coach to the cruise terminal entrance, they couldn't be relied on to find it themselves.

Atrocious weather today, what a contrast to a few days ago. Its sad to see the AIDA Luna having to go elsewhere because of these weather conditions.
Mark, relocating to Tilbury, when is this likely to happen?
