First of the 2012 cruise ships

- 3 May 2012 12:49170129Even though the weather really came down I was particularly keen to see today's other visitor, Deutschland, which I think was last here in 2007. Operated by Peter Deilmann Cruises this is a one-ship family run company catering for he upper end of the market. Even though she was built in 1998 she still keeps a semblance of traditional ship design. I haven't been on board but I'm told the art deco interior is very impressive.

Fascinating postcard Ray, interesting to remember how they used to dock at that pier, you dont see that nowadays and on the grand scheme of things that pier is destined to be gone in time.
Yes guys the fountain is always popular. Surely a rethink is required about its suggested removal. it doesnt make sense to demolish one of our best little assets. I believe this ship has been chartered by the German Olympic Association for this year's London Games and will be moored in London. Also recently chartered for the Olympics is a regular caller at Dover, Fred Olsen's Braemar. As a result, Dover will lose a couple of calls.

- 6 May 2012 08:12170546And the Ryndam is back today. The Holland America line, so hopefully a few more visitors around the town. But as you can see at a glance out of your window the weather is fairly lousy....not very encouraging for visitors.
Here is a pic of the gorgeous Deutschland departing late on friday night. She is small but beautifully put together and as Kevin said earlier, part of the German Olympic effort shortly.

Sunday opening seems to be a no-no for many businesses despite cruise-ship arrivals.
If you're not open, you can't take any money. At the risk of repeating many of my postings, nothing will change without a Manager/Co-ordinator to be out there talking to businesses.

- 7 May 2012 08:26170783It's the Star Flyer. A maiden call at Dover I believe. According to their website she left Southampton on Saturday and should be in Amsterdam this morning, so it looks like an unscheduled call.

- 7 May 2012 09:21170803Tomorrow should be an interesting day too, with the first three ship day of 2012 for Dover. This includes Emerald Princess (a big one!), Princess Daphne and Braemar. The former two are both port of call visits, so the town should be busy.

Yes tomorrow see's the first three ship day, followed by The Black Watch, TR, on Thursday, with two ships on Friday, both PoC's, the Artania and Brilliance Of The Seas. Saturday brings the Azamara Journey,PoC, Sunday, the Ryndam again, TR.
Then on Monday we have the first of the Saga's arrive, the Saga Pearl 11, TR, followed by the Grand Mistral and the AIDAMar both PoC's on Tuesday, then a break until Saturday when the beautiful Celebrity Constellation, PoC, and the Black Watch, TR, arrive, with the Ryndam, TR, arriving back on Sunday to end the week
That should keep you PhotoGrafters busy with your cameras
- 7 May 2012 15:31170889May is traditionally one of the busiest months for cruise ships here in Dover as it marks the start of the season in Northern Europe. Apparently it's when the better weather arrives - no laughing! Colette referred to the AIDAmar on 15 May which will actually be her maiden cruise as she is the latest in the AIDA fleet.
- 7 May 2012 18:08170949Jean and I went on a cruise to St. Petersburg late May a couple of years ago and every day was beautiful - calm, sunny and pretty warm too. Dover however, was grey cold and miserable; nothing new there then !
