richard
you are beginning to sound like black night in the monty python sketch all those years ago.
much better to admit defeat, lick wounds and move on to something more realistic in my view.

Ah, nice for everyone to go for the stereotypes and pin this straight on 'youths' - as with a lot of vandalism on the Heights it is more often than not over 18s.....

We do need the shelter for when the trams return.
Folkestone Road should have a tram service reinstated, as cars will be restricted anyway with the looming financial crisis and petrol costs.
It's a forgone conclusion that trams or electro-buses will be transiting along Folkestone Road.
It will happen!

Not in our lifetime Alexander - and Richard, I'm afraid.
I actually agree with Tom, let's make a show of it and show we do care about the Tramshelter.
I like the idea of strong plastic panels (can we make them bounce-back as per Jan's suggestion) and good luck with measuring for those missing teeth Richard.
I'll talk to property services in the meantime.

Post 319 sorry but to talk like that is rubbish,as I pointed out it needs to go to where the public will see it even use it and it will be99%safe and that is Dover Castle it is part of Dovers history and needs to be saved all the talk about trams coming back it would be great but in the real world never happen in Dover. So (1) Do nothing and repair it again and again etc.(2) Moved it to a place where it will be safe and 1000s of the public will see it,and the good thing it will be used again. end.

Grade 2 listed English Heritage probably won't let it be moved as it isn't like it is at risk from a road going through the area or something
Here is Ramsgate's project that it looks like has now been completed to restore NINE Victorian shelters along the promenades:

The Community Safety Unit at DDC has a portable temporary cctv camera that could be fitted for a while. Might be worth contacting them. It's normally fitted to a lamp post.

While not wishing to put a dampner on the CCTV plans (anything is better than nothing) unless culprits are identified and prosecuted it will be a waste of time and money, much like the continued repairs.
I am sure we would all prefer the shelter to stay where it is but unless it is guarded 24 hours a day it is a sitting target for the vandals.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

if it continues in the same location there will not be much left of it eventually and the next generation will condemn us for neglect.
people talk about the demolition of brook house in the past, much the same scenario.

Terry - I contacted the Manager of the CSU about it last summer and they put up a temporary CCTV last year in the Autumn half-term period (just before and just after it), but no damage caused and so it was removed without any incidents occuring.
Everyone has a view on whether it should stay or be moved; you can't please all the people all the time (come to think of it, it's difficult, if not impossible, to please even just a few people, some of the time).

What this this ? give into vandals even if you catch them you can not give them a good beating that is what it would take to stop them you are beating them by taking it away then they can not do it any more.
