Was the original livery for the tram shelter the dark green as in the latest photo, posted by Scotchie?

Vic, I'm sure you have a vast knowledge of welding but I'm pretty sure that bench uprights were cast. I remember crawling underneath the seating as a child and the uprights being cast iron. Not much work for welders there!
Aldo-Manta never made cast iron did they?

DT1 - this is precisely the sort of memory we require to develop an accurate picture. Please note my post #279- the prices here Howard are full retail-as a heritage project we could probably get the price right down and also note my reference to castings.

Tram shelter, always was dark green, the seats were on metal stands, nothing fancy, wooden slats, no backs, that was in the late forties. This shelter was also the collection point for the miners buses

Ok Sheila- another eye witness account! In that case it would appear that we have cast iron supports with just slats on the seat. Historical accuracy is certainly bringing the price down all the time! I think it safe to say what existed in the late forties was present when the shelter was originally built- unless of course anyone has anything to add. The photo above from Paul would appear to have the original cast supports. Do they still exist in storage- a remote possibility perhaps?

DDC took them away, so they may still have them somewhere; it really depends on whether they were in a decent condition when removed - I'll ask them.

As I said £5000.or more that is what it would cost to get it back to how it was ,and just to add,I also done hot and cold riveting on rolling stock when on the railway+ bridges there is still one in Canerbury I done years ago.I worked before coming awelder at the D.E.W. with my dad and what was my job? I was a cast iron floor moulder ,so it is not all hot air when I talk. And you can weld cast with S/rods I have done it,but must say it does not weld good,If the D,D,C, do have the cast iron supports it would cut the cost, even if they had one would be good then it could be used as a patten. The seats you are seeing are not the ones that were put in with the shelter.end.

Even as the Shelter stands, the art of welding moves on...

Were the brackets welded in the first place, maybe they were bolted or riveted on, if so they would be easy to reinstall.
