One could rightly question the wisdom of the wanton expenditure of maintaining the shelter as a 'derelict' structure - with the painting and window replacing - without returning it to close to it's proper condition and purpose.
But if it were to become again a thing of purpose and utility, with seating, if it did therefore offer shelter and become a site of congregation for the young, then any vandalism would adversely effect the very people that make use of it. Who could find it useful one day and useless another day?
For all there being a somewhat natural edict that one should not soil one's own nest, yes, such things do happen, but to a much lesser extent than the soiling and despoiling at places without use or purpose.
Why spend and not invest?

By moving it that would be a investment it would be saving part of the history of our great town, but there is only so much repairs that can be done to a very old structure.Anyway as IT as already been said we are going round and round,I have now run out of words to say about it all. Thank you.

You're not taking up ballet Vic. surely ?
Peter, I don't disagree with your comment, but I still do not think any decision about it will be politically motivated.

My view has nothing to do with ballot boxes or ballet
Just to keep the tram shelter where it is
and i have nothing to gain by campaigning for this

Now who doesn't know what he's talking about.
Now then Tram Shelter support people-the bench really ought to be installed-it is listed too you know.
My thanks are due to Paul Wells for his assistance in this matter.

Time for your medication Mr McSweeney!
Come on Sheila- insist on the bench. Surely the structure being a listed one, will be able to rely on its owners to bring it up to standard-assisted by its supporters of course!
By the way cheers Paul.

Have we photos or other data from which to create a working drawing to recreate the bench. Also was there ever an information panel providing details of the tram service in those far off pre - war days..

According to The Tramway Routes of Dover by George Blackburn 1995:
"In 1980 the staff of McKeen Engineering carefully restored the shelter after it had been demolished in an accident"
There is a question raised as to whether it was in it's original position as there trough that is now in the Market Square was the only thing on the corder in photographs prior to 1930 so may have been moved there when the trams closed in 1936
