Sweeping up the detritus of an evening's social intercourse is far easier and less costly than replacing window glass. Far better that it were used and not abused.

If we still have councillor grants next year, i'm sure the 4 local DTCouncillors of the ward, would put some funds towards it

People misusing the shelter is neither here nor there and moving it would be pandering to these cretins who either wish to misappropriate it, or damage it. Keep it where it is, cherish and repair it ad infinitum if necessary - why should a anti social behaviour, vagrancy or vandalism bring the locality down to the level of devastating its own dwindling, accurately located heritage.
The seating should be installed ASAP-excellent idea.

What repairs, Mr. Matcham?
I am all ears to hear about this unbreakable glass and this permo-paint.
Where, oh where, is the wondrous thing that is designed and built to endure unaffected by time. The Pyramids are not as they once were, and if it comes to that the white cliffs of Dover are certainly not where they once were. Why should this Tram Shelter be expected to be more permanent that anything else, be it natural or man made?
What has been done and as things stand no effort has been made to maintain this 'object' in it's original condition. It has suffered a two pronged attack of vandalism; from the Council and one or two young miscreants. Can it be that the young vandals are the only ones that one can hope may grow-up?

Only as we have see over many years replace by more, nature looks after its own, tram shelters do not.

If it was listed Vic-funding would not be an issue-but in any case you're talking small amounts of cash for the odd broken window and 5 yearly paint job. Certainly infinitely less than the mega bucks that you would have to find to move it-but that's not the sensible or proper thing to do.. It should stay where it is.
How many windows have been broken say over the past 5 years?

Keith has supplied all with the answer. It will soon be election time and the choices will be stark.
To keep the Tram Shelter in situ it will have to house half the town's OAPs...it's...it's...widows verses windows.

Shouldn't be - nothing to do with politics, just a lovely old tram-shelter that needs to be left alone by vandals and looked after by its owner (DDC).
Why bring politics into it ?

Politics IS about everything Roger, it is the science of living together that is best practised by the very amateurs that are the actors within the living together drama that is everyday life.
What else could Politics be? The angels of promise dancing upon the pinhead of regret? All about the tough decisions that only ever effect one or other group that can be seen as less worthy? The practise of arson dressed-up as delightful pyrotechnics? The art of being a whore while presenting oneself as chaste? A simple choice between one who will not act for reason 'A' and another that will not act for reason 'B'?

Politics may play a big part in people's everyday lives Tom - and many people don't even realise that they do, but wanting the tram-shelter to stay, or be relocated, is not a political decision, it will be one of finance being available - unless funding can be found.
I want the tram-shelter to stay where it is, so does Sheila who is a Labour Town Councillor (I have no idea about any other Councillor's view as we never see anyone else up here).
It would look better with bench seats in it, but I'm not sure if that would attract vandalism - if the youngsters were just congregating there and chatting - no problem, sadly that doesn't seem to be the case.

Roger, the issues over the tram shelter are of law and order on the one hand; and public expenditure on the other. Two issues nearer to the political heart can hardly be imagined.
