I dont see any sign of a grand opening today Ken, not as I glance out the window anyway. No sign of activity as we speak and they usually do these things midday or so. I will go along and get a few pictures if I they let me know when its on....but have heard nothing. Its still cordoned off so it hasnt happened earlier although gawd knows!
I see too that the more amiable frontman of the DHB, Bill Fawcuss, has retired which is a bit of a pity as he more than anyone seemed to maintain a link between the Harbour Board and the town.

Not hang-gliding, just a long lense from the Castle !!
That said I will be circling Dover from the air next week

Been nice knowing you :)

The work is scheduled to finish today, and when I was down there at lunchtime it looked like the finishing touches were being applied. Sadly, though, it has been decided not to turf the beds just yet, due to "adverse weather conditions"; I jest not.

Not good to lay new turf in a period of very dry weather

just give it a good soaking, it will soon bed in.
the sooner it is open the better, school holidays have now started.
Seriously I heard that that the local Parks and Gardens guys are up in arms about it on Health and Safety grounds due to the angle of the grass to be mowed (slippery in the wet) + height above walkway. Any truth in the rumour??

Just to let you all know, I noticed the pagoda style cafe on the beach opposite Churchill`s was open today, and doing brisk business around lunchtime. Unfortunatly, there`s still fencing in front of it, but it didn`t deter customer`s.

Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

for how long though colin?
we have had enough false dawns.
i seem to remember victor saying that he waited an age for his meal and no reason for the delay was given.

No probs Howard, but nice to see it open again, and I did note that it`s roof was being done while the other work was going on.

Did they bother to put a tea-bag in the teapot, or, coffee in the cup this time Colin? Paid for drinks there last year and they were apalling, not even as good in the austerity years of the 1950's. Saw no point in complaining, just won't ever go there again.

Sid, I went there three times last year, and the coffee was lukewarm where I had to drink it straightaway. Never used it again either. I will get down there again shortly and report my finding`s on here, unless someone else would like to give it a go?

Contractors were this afternoon, drilling into those new bays along the prom, and fitting some curved structure`s for seating.

seems to be getting better by the day, what with the seafront and railway station coupled with the new play areas at kearsney and connaught, we seem to have got lucky.
got the money and spent it before dave and nick could put the kibosh on the projects.
