18:1434655This is on the frontpage of Your Dover today..(visible online as well) also on front of their website proper as you can see with Andy's link. I too am warming to this idea although not everyone is keen I know. But having a look at the photograph today, where the seafront design reflects the famous White Cliffs..it certainly begins to look good. What with the new Seasport Centre as well, soon to be fully operational, it certainly will begin to look pretty modern down here along the seafront.

22:1734665Frankly, if DHB are offering to pay for something that the ordinary people of Dover can benefit from and enjoy we should rip their hands off

23:0934667i thought it was the government with their "seachange" money that was financing it?
even better if the harbour board are paying.

07:4134672DHB are not paying for this work, even though it is their land. It's Government Seachange money - for a specific purpose.
It's a pity we can't get money for the simple things, like smartening up the Town's run-down and dilapidated shops/buildings - to make the Town look cared for.

09:2234677Yes as I understand it, its 'SeaChange' money, so it will be a great idea to try and benefit from it. I always get the feeling we tend to over-debate stuff in Dover and many projects have been missed out on...lets grab this while its still on the table.

15:0034690Think there is some serious misdirection with regards the Seachange project...
Nowt wrong with the promenade, use money on the Painted House, Roman remains and Crabble Mill
The Castle keep didn't need £2.45m - could be done less than half that for the same effect. Use it to get a proper use from the Officer's Mess, stop the decay of many of the other barracks and buildings, keep the moats clear from the growth that is slowly destroying it, open up the bastions that are sealed up.
Cablecar - not needed, spend that on properly open up the Heights, green transport system, proper heritage trails, or access to Fort Burgoyne.
Dover has too much heritage that is being vandalised through neglect......
Been nice knowing you :)

15:4534691Paul aka Scotchie ,Your postings a breath of fresh air .Your comments are common sense .I came home on the bus today and a very well informed gentleman was commenting on Margaret Hodges comments on Radio Kent .I think another person who lives in the world of make believe .This Gentleman like you Paul and so many other people with feet on the ground think it was in my words a load of C*****In years to come we will have lost our heritage through neglect .

17:5534695Totally agree - with finite resources it seems futile to spend it on those that need it less, and ignore the absolutely fabulous other attractions like the Heights and other aspects of the castle.

18:0634696I agree also Paul. With the lack of upkeep of what we`ve got, how long before the cablecar etc become items of neglect.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

19:1634707the problem is that it is free money and we are told how it is going to be spent.
we all have our own ideas, paul has detailed the obvious ones where money needs spending, but the money given is not for those things.
my own view is that i will tug my forelock and grovel to anyone that gives us free dosh.

23:3834735I was that way Howard, but badly invested money will just work to the detriment to areas that deserve it. To outsiders Dover has received good money and doesn't need more

23:4234736i see what you are saying paul, but outside investment tends to come for capital projects.
we are about to lose the money for the proposed hospital because of local in fighting, that is why i always welcome any inward money without debate or question.
hope you will be able to make tomorrow nights shindig.

00:0434738Funding that comes ringfenced can be a very good carrot but beware ,We should be asking for money to do the things which really matter .I did mention on hear that Cllr Eddys motion was defeated .What we need is a few good public meetings and listen to the public .
Tonight I was trying to present the problem of having a low bridge on the Coombe Valley Road, askingfor a solution to be put on an agenda .IT is stupid having heavy lorries going over Hillside .To think of placing a hospital facility on this road .
It needs to be placed on a top priority list .

08:3834754A few years ago, the Dover Chamber of Commerce were lobbying and harrassing various bodies about funding to have the road lowered at Coombe Valley, so more industry could be placed up there; it nearly got accepted, but as usual, funding (or rather lack of) was the problem.
Maybe now, all industry needs to move from Coombe Valley to Whitfield Phase 2 or 3, there's plenty of units already standing idle.
Coombe valley area could then be redeveloped as all residential.

09:2434757So maybe now is the time to start puting pressure on to resolve these problems.Currently I donot see the will in the Council to make any changes. It needs people pressure and as only one section of the community live in St Radigunds I doubt whether the powers at B will listen .
Many councillors donot even visit this area as has been stated previously only one Dover councillor is on the cabinet ,
I cannot see how a person can represent District and County .
At the meeting I attended last night It was obvious and indeed one said I have been at County all day .At county level you claim higher expenses so where do loyalities lie?

23:2736219This images does make me wonder if the promenade road could actually be narrowed and make the promenade like it used to be !
