A physical COP26 in the UK (scheduled for November and already delayed by a year) is now under severe threat, apparently. Looks like we won't be seeing any large scale events for a while.....and I have England v Scotland tickets

The pastor will need to eat considerably more beans before he gets anywhere near our government and its committees of 'scientists' in wind output.

Seems to be a bit of a row about 'vaccine passports'.
Personally I can't see what the problem is.
We are not talking about mandatory/compulsory vaccination as exists already in 11 EU countries (see attached). Vaccine passport could easily show those who are exempt e.g. for duration of pregnancy.

As for those who are worried about the science or have 'religious' objections I would be a lot happier if I did not have to share Wetherspoons or Waitrose with stupid people who might infect me and others.
Perhaps they could even be used for voter ID for those who don't have a passport or driving license?

Because, like ID cards, they assume guilt and increase the power of the state over the individual. Blair is a vaccine passport zealot, and the government's meetings with that ghoul, and their consideration of such a policy, is a clear enough confirmation that the Tory Party threw conservatism overboard and is pursuing something entirely different, an authoritarian course that is contrary to all our country's political traditions.
Johnson is on record as being against ID cards, and Gove is on record warning against allowing the state to gather in extra powers in the name of 'emergency', as they are never returned. So, with their mendacious, opportunistic records, I fully expect both of them to support the idea.
Besides, Michael loves Tony; and Johnson has hooked up with and made over more principles than he has women.

I have never really understood the above argument unless someone has done something illegal what "guilt" is there to fear. Those who can not have the vaccine for some genuine reason would be exempt, those who refuse the vaccine simply because they can selfishly put everyone else at risk of death or even long covid have no genuine excuse.
The state already has virtually all the power should it choose to use it.
I have never really understood the above argument from WGS, unless someone has done something illegal, surely nothing wrong nothing to fear. I would happily carry an ID card.

Who would the vaccine passport protect when the majority are vaccinated?
Especially as those who have had the vaccine can still be carriers and pass the virus on.

I haven't yet made up my mind on the passport issue, but I think 'the issue' is about risk and how best to live with it. The option of risk management already comes in various forms, eg. we drive on the left, we can't get a licence to do this until a certain age, there are restrictions on speed, parking, overtaking, there is often junction control, and so on. I don't have a problem with those.

Looks like they are coming in one way or another, particularly for international travel, which is of course inevitable and understandable.
I don't have a strong view either way on their domestic use, but will watch the political debate unfold with interest. Starmer has come out against for domestic use, with Boris being in favour. Polls suggest that 65% of the population support them, and with Boris being a populist first and foremost, let' see what happens.
My own view is that they might come in for a relatively narrow window, until vaccination is almost universal in the country.

Considering ever the scientists don't know how long the vaccine jab gives protection for - how long would a vaccine passport be valid for?

Beloved of so many party loyalists yet the thickest buffoon on the political stage in recent years. The man who told us that Brexit would be the easiest deal ever now feels equipped to speak as a virologist. Variants are 'biological nonsense'. No wonder this country is in such a mess.
