16:1490862I am truly sick of dodging the dog poo all the way from the station to town.
It's obvious that people are letting their dogs to do this daily and I think that a dog warden should go undercover to catch these thoughtless, don't give a damn characters.
It's not a great start for any visitors to come across,is it?
And what a thankless task for the chap who keeps this part of the town's pavement and gutters so free of rubbish.

16:1790863Walking up the town this morning it was a case of dodging the multiple poos between the Town Hall and Tower Hamlets.

17:5890871These problems go on and on. There just doesnt seem any way we can get this situation behind us. The worst street from my point of view used to be Castle St because there was and is of course a vet there. I put the two and two together and came up with blaming the vet as the level of dogstuff was way above and beyond the norm. Although the owners were responsible enough to bring their pets to the vet they didnt seem to take their responsibility any further. Castle St has improved but there is always a great big doings lying in wait for the unsuspecting passer by.

18:1590872Nothing will change unless and until the offenders are caught, fined and publicly named and shamed. Unfortunately in Dover none of our public servants is tasked with the enforcement of this particular law.

18:5390881a warden for the above, litter dropping, spitting etc would pay their wages and associated costs many times over.
other towns and cities can do it, why not ours?
i read yesterday that beverley in north yorkshire have clamped down on litter, children are mostly the problem, so they have a choice when caught.
mum and dad can pay a fine or the child can join a 2 hour team litter pick.
sounds a good idea, gets the kids thinking about their surroundings.

20:4290893I don't know Beverley personally Howard, but she sounds quite a sensible girl !!
I have asked the question several times about why our enforcement officers only enforce car-parking offences, when they could raise many thousands of pounds enforcing other things like litter and dog-poo, which would of course help DDC and clear up the Town - literally.

20:4990895shot with my own gun roger.
how long have you, me and half the people that post here said the same thing, i went past a lot of our river yesterday, the water is perfectly clean, just the junk that gets thrown in.
maybe a bonus scheme for the officers?
they would have to carry a camera though to prove things.

20:5790897That's true as Terry says - they photograph your car with the penalty notice on the windscreen, so they're half equipped already.

10:3490945When I see any laying in town I always ring Waste Services 01304 821199 and it usually gets cleared very quickly especially in the town centre area.
The Dog Warden Service operated through DDC's Environmental Health department can be contacted on 01304 872289 - they can issue on the spot fines providing they see the dog doing the business and can find the owner.
At the end of the day - owners should take responsibility for their dogs - there are enough dog bins around.

12:4190960The simple way is this,if you see a Dog walker and the enforcement Officers says excuse me as you are walking your dog, what means have you got for clearing up after it,if they have a suitable way fine,if they don't warn them and next time fine them.
This has been done by some Councils in public play areas and could be at least tried here.it may not get rid of the problem but warnings in the newspapers that it will be done might help.
You are right Howard I bet it is a very small amount if any!

12:5690966This subject comes to light on the forum many times but something never seems to happen, I'm a dog owner myself and am appalled that certain dog owners do not clear up after their dogs (most of the culprits that I have seen seem to be late teens/early twenties).
I've never seen a dog warden enforce an offence, in fact I don't think that I've ever seen a dog warden in Dover, do they wear a different type of uniform?

18:5491028They have cold noses and floppy ears, Barry.
Howard, I would be surprised if it reached single figures. Probably a nice round number. 0.

08:1391111DDC have made prosecutions, I inquired last year; I believe the figure was 3, but maybe more now.
It is extremely annoying, nauseating and dangerous and doesn't seem to get taken seriously by those who could make a difference.
Is there a political will to make it happen ? Should it be the Cabinet member for the Enforcement Officers to increase their remit (and income for the Council) or should it be the Cabinet member for Waste who can provide that political will to make it happen ?
I'll try and find out.
