It wasn't originally about that, Reg, you steered it that way.

To be fair it was Keith (as usual

) way back in post 36 that started it.
"we saw your own members agreeing with the oppostion and voting that way only to whipped into line"

Not funny at all Keith, you were the first one to mention whips. Peter in #26 mentioned officers which is a different thing, Bern in #32 was talking about democracy.

there was a load of other posts, and peters point is no different, stating the political parties(all) are officer led
meaning a political statement!!!!!!! the politicians are not leading the officers are.
my comment was a lot of posters contributed making political statements and thats fine

Jeez, here we go again with people taking up posts justifying their posts.

Thank you Keith.I bet not many people knew that .Its important that there are good councillors who do their best .Just lately there has been a lot of unpleasant comments on the forum .Its no wonder some people have refrained from posting .
It is because of the lack of communication and transparency that there are negative comments.

In many of my comments i try to even up debate sue,
you know for years we worked closely together on a number of committee's we were not poles apart on many issues.
just as i worked closely with a number of other tory cllrs lib dem cllrs over the years
but like any thing else there are hard working cllrs in all parties, and some there just for the ride and to have the name cllr before there name???
I often wondered in my 25 uears on district and 13 on county why some cllrs eve stood as the said little or nothing in the chamber, and many not seen in the ward either, begs the question, why put yourself forward?
i think sue we are both aware who may work hard and may differ on one or two
im talking both parties

We can only comment on how we perceive comments or events it is up to others to correct us when we are wrong.
I find it annoying when those that give a definitive answer are ignored or argued against.

Jan - you have expressed one of the frustrations that I feel quite frequently.

"To each his suff'rings: all are men,
Condemn'd alike to groan,
The tender for another's pain;
Th' unfeeling for his own.
Yet ah! why should they know their fate?
Since sorrow never comes too late,
And happiness too swiftly flies.
Thought would destroy their paradise.
No more; where ignorance is bliss,
'Tis folly to be wise. "
The final stanza of, Ode on a Distant Prospect of Eton College

The fact is every politician knows the main political party`s have control of their members and how they will vote.
When you join the ``club``,which ever colour, you are left in no doubt the number one rule is you vote the way the party
wants you to vote.
At County level Conservatives vote allegiance to the Leader....no one steps out of line.
At District for decades when a vote is called the party on the left of the chamber will vote `for` or `against`in unison ( no
one steps out of line ) ...the party on the right of the chamber vote `for` or `against`in unison...100 % every time unless
someone has the courage to think for themselves, which is very rare.
Apart from the `closet blues` make up your own mind.
I am guessing that if you join a "club" the chances are high that you are buying into the values of that club, so it is not a surprise if many of the members vote in a similar way. That does not imply any force behind it.

i think reg is correct on this one, whipping is an entirely different issue.
it is difficult to comprehend that anyone would vote knowing that they would incur the wrath of their leader.
if you look at voting patterns across all councils that affect us then this will become apparent.
