Reading through recent posts a lot of blame being directed at DDC.Our AGM was held on Wednesday no press or a single member of public present .
We elected Chairman ,Vice Chairman ,Leader stays in post for a fixed term ,members of the cabinet etc .
No change in any of the above positions .

Depends what you mean Martin .Difficult decisions are being made all the time .Less money ,apathy from the pubilc .An excample of the attitude of todays public Yesteray .I was with a group of young people Dover Youth Theatre advertising their next production .Standing on the steps of the Town Hall .Passers by were walking through us and the photographer all the time .Some even stood behind the photographer making the V sign .
I had my Chain of Office on and these young people were there straight from school to promote the Jubille production .
A bit of respect goes a long way .

No change is not a bad thing Sue, I wish that there was not this obsession with change for changes sake, it is blighting peoples lives and usually ends up with life becoming worse. As for the manners of people in general, I despair when I witness the ignorance and rudeness of elements of our community, no respect for anyone or anything.

Respect is surely a two way street? Reverence, is most likely what is felt missing. Perhaps if such internal election forums were to be deemed non-quorate without a certain number of the local electorate present?

Having attended other bodies AGM's I would never bother attending another as everything was pre-decided and attending was a waste of time.

Attend:
1) attend (Accompany), verb
2) attend (Be present at), verb
3) attend (Heed), verb
4) attend (Take care of), verb
So...are the public to; (1) Go along with? (2) Witness? (3) Take note of? (4) Perform a function? All four?
The apparent 'malaise' is of a general nature. Even Howard cannot bring himself to say 'we', but uses 'they'.
I would tie two further points into this. The much vaunted 'Local-ism' Bill, that is set to contain nothing new and no sense of improvement and the fact that we all derive the status of 'Citizen' from the EU only. In all things we British are yet but mere Subjects of the Crown.
Who or what shall, can or may 'attend' to this?

do the press attend all the meetings because we don't see many write ups in the local papers?

depends what's on the agenda. I was at cabinet on Monday and Planning the previous Thursday. I would generally cover full council but this one was mainly deciding who was going on which committee and as I understood it there was to be no massive shake up (which proved correct).
As there are only two of us (Adam and myself) currently on the Dover desk it would be impossible to attend every meeting as well as the other evening interviews/events we cover and so we have to organise it to make the best use of our time. We also like the odd evening off!

Kathy is quite right, why waste an evening watching a sequel that never changes and why would a member of the public
make the effort to be ignored and patronized.

From my understanding of the meeting, some of the speeches were worth hearing (if only to provide material for the Dubris column).
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

I'm sure they were Chris but I'm not going to work yet another evening just for a few Dubris!
