Bumped into the hirsute Aycliff Avenger just now. He tells me that he is now banned. He has had no email or anything and isn't allowed to log in.
He suggested that it was because he criticized Howard.
I think this will run and run.

It'll only run and run if you want it to. We don't like to ban/suspend anyone, but if we've got good reason to (which usually involves trying to keep the forum running smoothly) then we will. I'm sure the Aycliff Avenger knows the reason, and I can assure you it's not a simple as having criticized Howard.
It would be great if a group of adults could use an online forum without upsetting/offending each other, or trying to bring the whole thing crashing down, but unfortunately that just doesn't seem to happen. We try to make informed decisions that are in the best interest of the website - and I know some people may find this hard to believe, but there really isn't a secret pecking order. Sorry to disappoint.

I agree, well said Chris. BUT. Does this mean David will not be invited back?

The problem is Chris that it seems to have developed into some form of secret society where people are "apparently" denied access without any reason given.
I'm trying to be even handed here and I can see both sides of the issue. I don't know, and I don't really wish to know, who makes the decisions, you, Howard or the original three. I think what most people would prefer is that it should be more open. Contributors shouldn't just disappear, if someone is banned or barred for a while then this should be explained with the reasons given.
Editing this isn't easy I know but explanations should be given for actions.

If 'ban' and 'suspend' are interchangeable terms there may be hope for David, and others, yet.
I suppose that being aware of the fact that we all here are hanging by a thread, and that we each have a grip upon one handle of the scissors used to 'free' us from the forum, may take some of the sting out of the process/realisation.
Nevertheless, I cannot conjure-up a reason for there being no difference between ban and suspend.
If there were to be a 'three strikes and your out', and if the out was known to be long term or permanent, this would help.
One distinct advantage of short-term-suspension is that the miscreant could formulate an apologia (more explanation than mea-culpa). This could help cement the group together.
Whatever! I hereby ban myself from further comment. It is Christmas and the Port is 'saved'. There is much to rejoice about.
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

This thread has certainly sparked some interest and a certain amount of vitriol on Dover Local's toward "the dark side" good to something that interests them enough to actually post!

There can be no let up on this thread until David is reinstated. Too many people need to know his story and his opinions on the Port etc. I have been contacted by Harper Collins, we are negotiating a book and Sony want the film!

Simon, I think maybe the Jeremy Kyle Show would be more appropriate to start with!

Hooray my internet is now back, thanks Virgin not at all happy it has taken you 4 days.
Back on topic I really believe so much of the problem is the way suspensions/bans are handled, members are kept in the dark to much.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

I have decided to post again in the sure knowledge that our forum lords and masters will, in the Christmas spirit of love and reconciliation, call an amnesty, forgive the sins and transgressions of those whom they have cast into the outer darkness, and wipe the slate clean. All those in favour, say Aye.
Merry Christmas to everyone, unfortunately we are stuck in darkest Surrey over the holidays so cannot wish any of you the compliments of the season in person.
Starting a separate thread with the same post too.
