Deck the Halls with posts from David
Fallalla la la la la la la!
Sue, I don't remember Lousie.
Peter, I doubt the temple has been rocked really. Inhabitants irritated maybe?
Do you have inside knowledge Roger? Do will have to kill the fatted calf for a celebration feast?

Howard sorry not to have replied before but I am having internet problems.
Those suspended or banned that I was thinking of are Bern and Sarah whose informative (often medical) posts I still miss. I was suspended for about three days a while back for remarking that the same forum faces were often pictured on the front page, apparently this was offensive.

Reinstate David now. I enjoy reading his articulate posts and his sense of humour. Yes Jan I was thinking of Bern and Sarah and others who have "disappeared" from the Forum for reasons unknown to me.

As one has previously had the red card myself, I can say (probably to the annoyance of some) that I feel exclusion from the forum to be high-handed and subjective. I don't know what David Little has done to put noses out of joint - although I'm aware that some of his remarks towards Roger Walkden are, at times, somewhat 'pointed' - but it does also seem to me that the old adage of "damned if you do, damned if you don't" applies to Howard. I've been a moderator on the other channel and found out that you cannot please everyone. It's easy to point the finger, less so to deal with situations to everyone's tastes.
That said, David probably deserves another go if only because he mostly offers a brief respite from the endless and tawdry political drivel spouted on here.
True friends stab you in the front.

you're right about moderating andy, whoever does it will get criticism - i would be the same about someone elses style.
jan
bern resigned very publicly on facebook insulting members of the forum, some no doubt miss her but others made very clear that they found some of her posts overly aggressive.

Howard, your reply underlines part of the problem it seems to depend who the "some" are as to what happens. When annoyed with a perceived injustice a person does tend to sound off privately and publicly which is quite understandable.
When there is a thread that is getting overheated maybe it would be better to close the thread rather than gagging ONE member by suspending or banning them, remember it takes two to tango as the saying goes.

Howard, there could be value in a rolling court of arbitration. The members could be nominated on a six monthly basis and then any matters of adjudication could be submitted to them, that way as a moderator,Howard, you are in the clear.

jan
closing of threads is not under my control, i can only remember 2 being closed - one by paul over the western heights development my phone didn't stop ringing for a couple of days some complaining that i was biased for the development others that i was biased against it so i asked paul to step in and close it. the other one chris closed because members were deleting or editing their posts and none of it made any sense.

I can add to that as the thread discussing Bern's banning was closed. Two of the nicest people I know are Bern and Sarah P and as I read Bern's "very public resignation" I can remind you that it was a sounding off to those on her friends list that was critical of some postings (not posters). As the whole point of forum's is debate, it is very sad to read of people putting their point clearly and directly being perceived by some as "aggressive". If a post is not to somebodies liking they have two simple options, express their own view on why it is wrong or ignore it, that way the debate can stay fresh and interesting.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

Time for a change let a new face have ago at it,but do we need anyone doing it bar the owner of the forum? .But it is down to him and if he is happy then that is the end of the matter.

We want the forum to be a place where you can take part without the fear of being constantly shot down. David made this impossible for some people, and so after asking him - both on and off the forum - to tone it down a little (pun intended), we were left with the choice of removing his account or losing a number of other members.
By posting on the forum you can expect people to disagree and question your views, but if it becomes too relentless and/or personal then it will only drive them away.

Thanks to this thread I've had a look at the Terms of Service of this forum found in small print at the bottom of the page, suggest others do too.
One thing in particular that I don't like and others might not be aware of -
"By uploading, submitting, or otherwise providing any Content to the Service, you agree and grant permission for it to be used by the Service in any way (for example, a photo uploaded to the forums may be used as part of a news article)."

Hi Ray - sorry about that, it's left over from before the current forum was on this website. I wont use any material without asking permission, and will update the statement shortly.

I think that is what happen to myself about 3 weeks ago about the park and River,But I do not mind that it puts over my views for Both River and the Park, that was the only way the Public of the town would have found out. But not so good when it brings in other members of a family.

Howard #50, my point was that it is not fair to suspend/ban one it should be all involved, maybe you should change your phone number or possibly not give it out to so many picky people in the first place.
