Please don't say it's a man thing? How sexist is that?
You have started this thread and then didn't like the challenges (from men and women), then made sweeping comments about what you think men like, suggesting we might be no different to a sexual predator, you suggest that you know more to the case than the court and won't say on a public forum, when someone said something you didn't like, you told them to "lighten up", you start trying to use the Bible to make people feel guilty because all of us are sinners, and then you decide to say that you knew a "chap" (not what I'd call them) who was a child molester who'd done his time, suggesting he was no longer a threat!
Then you have the nerve to suggest everyone else is winding you up? I think it is the other way round!
As you are a Daily Mail reader, I assume you've read the article today from his mother in law?

That's it Andy
You don't start a post then expect everyone to just agree, it would be boring if everyone did.
I do think on this case Sue has sadly just looked at this as an ex party member and it's clouded her judgement

Just move the thread to the politics part of the forum where it should have been to start with, and it can join the other similar threads.

Good idea Karlos, never read politics so people can safely post their ancient views, out of touch morals, ideas about "what I did in 1978 was ok and it's still perfectly acceptable in 2021", quote religious text, and on and on and on, and no one will be upset because no one will see it.

Another good tabloid article from the redoubtable Mrs Pears - and better than playing on the scratchcards, I daresay.

Sometimes it's hard to be a woman
Giving all your love to just one man
You'll have bad times, and he'll have good times
Doin' things that you don't understand
But if you love him, you'll forgive him
Even though he's hard to understand
And if you love him, oh, be proud of him
'Cause after all, he's just a man
Stand by your man
Give him two arms to cling to
And something warm to come to
When nights are cold and lonely.
All together now!

This sexual consent form may come in useful.

Odd post.
It would read better on a new 'Radical feminism weirded me out' thread.

I've seen you trying to shut down debate and bully people who disagree with you by laying guilt-trip lines on them.
I thought you would dive in. What precisely is "weird" then...apart from you (apparently)? And are you really as holier than thou in real life as you make out you are on here?
"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone".
Sexual Consent forms? They exist. Just putting it out there. Pointing out that men are sexual predators by nature? Seems to me it was a pretty weird accusation for the judge to make, if not downright risible.
My view? Yes he was guilty but the punishment was excessive. Everyone knows he was made an example of.

I can't claim exclusive rights to 'weird', as you've ably demonstrated.
As for my seeking to 'shut down debate', precisely the opposite's true. It's just that debate hardly happens. Which, on a discussion forum, is... well, weird, don't you think?
Did the judge claim that 'men are sexual predators by nature'? As far as I know, he said Elphicke was a sexual predator, but didn't make any general claims. If you can locate the place in the judge's summing up where he did so, then fine. A quote and a link to it would be good.

I really can't be bothered to trawl this voluminous thread for the exact quote but I believe you said something along the lines of people arguing anything not fully supportive of Charlie Elphike's treatment had their own stuff to deal with. The shaming tone annoyed me, and sounded like you were trying to win the argument by embarrassing people into silence.
"Weird" is obviously a thing for you... maybe a hang-up? I have been called "an original thinker" by another forumite and told to expect only disappointment on this forum. I get what they mean.
There was also supposed to be a touch of wry humour in my comments - seems that went over your head.
As for the judge claiming men are sexual predators by nature, I am not claiming the judge said that.

I'm male. I have three daughters. Are males sexyual predators?
Try reading your history of the Russians entering Berlin or even the Americans in France where women felt less 'safe' than during German occupation.

How do people know he was made an example of and anyway what is wrong with that?
If a person is in a position of trust, power or control over others (teachers, police officers, MPs etc) then it comes with the territory, you abuse that trust and position and break the law, you will always get a harsher punishment because you should have known better.
Anyway, was he not happily married so shouldn't have been looking elsewhere (now there's an opinion that I'm sure will create reasoned debate, speculation and opposing opinions

)

He was was given the maximum sentence, suggests he was being made an example of.
The biggest reason I would think though was because of the lies to the police during early interviews.
I would guess not so happily married considering his behaviour, or maybe just a case of having his cake and a eating it!
