18:0985934I do hope Jan, Paul & others are right, if WFA is stopped and Bank bonuses are allowed to stay, there would be no excuses any coalition politician could use to justify those decisions.

18:2485937I do not see any connection between the two, different issues totally, Gary.
On the subject of bank bonuses, I have no problem with the government involving itself in respect of those banks that received a bail-ouit as it is a shareholder. They do need to take care over damaging the City's competitive position though. A lot of overseas income generation and jobs for the UK depend on that.
Those banks that did not get any bail-out should be left alone because government has no place involving itself in their remuneration strategy.

18:3085938It seems not to be looking good for Cable. There seems to be some coming and going at no10 and key people are not making themselves available for interview. Lots of tweets going on about Cable's position deteriating. The latest is that Andrew Mitchell, recently arrived at no10 will be the next Business Secretary....
We shall see.
Be good for the coalition for Cable to be sacked.

18:3585939be even better for nick, he will be able to say that it was that nasty cable bloke that forced him into the tuition fee hike.
there is talk of david laws coming back, doubtful though with the report on his behaviour awaiting publication.

18:3985945Political betting thinks that the 'war on Murdoch' claim will save him. Not because he was right making such a crass statement but because DC and NC will not want anyone to claim he was sacked for that comment.
Interesting to see how this develops, it might be more effective to just demote him rather than sack him.

18:5985946David Laws would be a refreshing and welcome prodigal.

19:0285947Jeremy Hunt has been given responsibility over media competition removing Cable from that role. That is the minimum that had to be done.
Cable has certainly been humiliated today and significantly weakened. Not a bad thing and I should think that DC will be quite happy at this.
I agree with you about Laws Bern but he cannot return to government until he has been cleared of wrongdoing (and if). He is an able man who I certainly hope to see return to Cabinet though he is an LD.

19:1185948Part one complete, then. Cables card has been marked, and the next phase starts. It was always on the radar that he would be "got".

19:5185955no chance keith, cable i still there and the coalition will run it's course.
as a red i would have thought that the last thing you would want is a general election.
the new leader needs at least 2 years to get up and running, he has to find out who he can trust then sit down with them and flesh out new policies.

20:4385967As I posted earlier Cable is like Clare Short.
The longer he stays the more impotent he becomes and his credibility drops further.
He won't be a hero on the backbenches because he has already sold out.
Who will gather round him.
He's gone whether sacked now or later or even does the" honourable thing "and resigns.
Will the Murdoch media leave him alone?
