think your missing the point.
we have a situation where the tories are not happy to be in bed with the lib dems and daily the lib dems drop big clangers.
then we have the lib dem membership not happy with its leadership, time will tell on this one
then we now see the MP's like cable/hughes fighting to survive and we are starting to see MP's put there constituents first as they see there majorities disappear.
then we have D Davies fighting his own corner over his own govt.
I could go on
but as i say this coolition is crumbling, its becoming more and more public each day

15:4785886The problem i have is this lib dem lot.
i reaise the tories are rubbing there hands at the moment
but thats because the people havnt yet understood that the tories are as much to blame in this coolition.
but they will slowy, and is slowly people are realising.
i think at this time because of peoples distrust in all politicians of all colours we are heading for cooolition type govts for some time.
that said ed's ready to get into number 10 won't be 4 years
cable/hughes/ etc will make sure of that

16:0585889I have to agree with Barry #40, Cable will have the moans but will do whatever is needed to keep the position he has. Hughes is now a political nobody full of hot air.
Barry, the pension might be going up as will my tax payments I expect, bet I am no better off in the end, so the fuel allowance will stay to keep all us tax paying pensioners happy.

16:1285893prediction in election was as same as last time, harold wilson joined together with liberals , the parternship only lasted until christmas , then we had general election and it was a majority victory for one party

16:1985896seems like vince is even deeper in the mire, the telegraph have just released a tape of him slagging off rupert murdoch.
i give his career 24 hours at best.
seems like blue barry was right on this one.

16:2685899Jan - if the new pension results in the consolidation of non-taxed benefits then that would be allowed for in the consolidation.
Dont forget, at age 65 you do get an additional personal allowance providing you with up to £9,490 tax free income in the current year (under age 65 its £6,475). That gets reduced back to the standard personal allowance though if your taxable income is over £22,900 at a rate of £1 off the extra allowance for every £2 of gross taxable income over the threshold. In other words the State Pension, even at £140 per week, would not be taxed with a margin above it, only other income on top of that margin gets taxed. Hope that helps Jan.

you shouldnt unestimate the dep leader of the lib dems mr hughes
he is a hard working MP and has the people on his side.
he's not frightened to speak out, and still believes the coolition and more so the lib dem party are getting it wrong in so many directions
and he has fired the warning shots telling his leadership to make sure the lib dem membership is carried along with coolition decisions if they dont want disruption.
i find myself agreeing with barryw(and iv taken the pills lol

)
that cable is just a nutter, but hes supposed to be a leading light for this govt, and is clear he has little loyalty
it will all end in tears and come crumbling down

16:5285907Indeed...very difficult to see how he can be sacked though.
He is probably THE leading light for the LIbdems in government as Cleggs reputation is in tatters and I doubt if anyone at all would vote for him in future elections. It does matter what people say in elections...just look at the ugly furore that has greeted Clegg at every turn since. The Libdems had already lost another top player in the shape of Laws, who got in a spot of expenses bother bigtime, so they are looking very treadbare at the top.
The latest revelation as mentioned by Howard there..that Cable has declared war on Rupert Murdoch could develop into big news. The Tories will not like this one bit. The Murdoch papers backed them in the election so now this is real 'egg on the face' time. Surprisingly the Daily Telegraph held this news back...but a whistleblower has passed it to Robert Peston at the BBC.
But what possessed the man Cable..to talk to two total strangers in this way will be regarded by all as pretty thicko lunacy.

16:5785909the only thing that could save vince cable is the fact that his knowledge of economics is considered invaluable by the chancellor.
of course there is always the problem of him raising a rebellion on the back benches, meaning that a lot of bills do not get passed.
having said all that, the latest faux pas may force dave to write a resignation letter for him.

16:5785910It would appear to be Get Cable week. Someone wants him gone...............

17:0485912Howard - dont believe the flimflammery about Cable, the man is weak on economics, a legend in his own eyes and that of the BBC/Guardian.

17:2285921just read it baz and hadn't realy considered the effect cable would have on the tories.
like the article said who sacks cable?
and if he were a tory he would already be toast.
and with tories being treated so differenty must cause resentment
