12:0185826Of course pledges have been broken, that is in the nature of a coalition, neither party is in a position to deliver all its manifesto so that is a very silly and pointless comment there about broken pledges Howard.
Cables comments are tomorrows chip paper. I hope he will be too soon.

12:1285827describing comments as "silly and pointless" makes it seem like you are rattled barry.
the prime minister has openly stated that the winter fuel allowance is safe.
one of his ministers states that the prime minister is considering reneging on it.
it will not be forgotten very quickly as you hope for.

13:2085836It seems to me that the true colors of this party are now coming out its all about what they want for this country and not wot the people need,But then who can you believe now days as we have all said at some time its not about the people its how comfortably they can make themselves.politics suck and so do most politicians.

13:5985844Actually Howard- it would be better for you to try to justify your comments by explaining how a coalition, brought together because of the popular vote, can possibly pull together a compromise legislative programme without any election promises being broken.
It is simply not possible to do so.
This kind of thing is quite normal on the continent after all.
Personally I would prefer that were not necessary as some things I would love to see, like getting shot of the Criminal Rights Act have had to be dropped (something Cable boasted about).
By being unable to justify your comments you are the one who seems rattled.

14:1385846If they can not keep promises after a Election they should not make them before, again it is albout fooling the public just to get their votes, then after the Election they go ahead with what they wanted to do in the first place.

14:1685847Vic - do read and try to understand politics if you participate.
Find out the definition of the word coalition. Research what it means and what is required to form one.
No-one went into the election wanting a coalition.

14:2585849PaulW - Vince does not look as good in a pashmina as Clare Short, but otherwise, spot on! Although perhaps Strictly might have some revelations for us...........

14:3085854The word "Try" why did they not use that word before the Election and not use "We will."
21 December 2010
14:3585856I guess - and I hate to state the obvious - that the statements made prior to the results were made using different parameters, and that as BarryW says, compromises have to be made in a coalition. The clue is in the title.

14:3685857The exceptions to that, however, are statements made with a moral basis, such as those about the uni fees. Those pledges were made not on fiscal grounds but on moral grounds, and their corruption is unacceptable and crooked.

14:5685864Check Cable's words carefully over winter fuel allowance Howard.
He may renege, I don't believe we will go back on this one.

14:5685865They have not broken their promise it is still there. you are all argueing over something that has not happened and is unlikely to happen, it would cost to many votes.

15:1985874Howard you should note that a substantial increase in the pension to £140 pw was not in the coalition agreement or Party manifestos either. Should that change go-ahead it would make sense for it to absorbe additional payments and to simplify the system eliminating the dreadful means testing of pensioners.

15:2185877Keith, Cable cannot do that, his ego runs ahead of reality.
