Part of the same government 'initiative' is to hurry up e-scooter rental trials 'to increase green transport options'. The largest, in the West Midlands, supposed to last 12 months, crashed after 5 days: scooters were being driven on pavements. Who knew? Everyone bar Grant Shapps, obviously.
I've seen a few in town, in roads and on pavements; if privately owned, they're illegal. Owned or rented, either way, they're a feckin' dangerous nuisance, and anyone coming near me with one can expect a visit from the sharp end of my walking pole.

Loads of e-scooters on canal tow paths when I was passing through London.
18 mile range and 15 mph I think they are brilliant and am sorely tempted to buy one.
No, they should not (like bicycles) be ridden on the pavement but I suggest they will do far less damage if you are hit by one than a bicycle which often travels at much greater speed?
Yup, initially there will be all sorts of stupid ideas about insurance and driving tests and a man with a red flag walking in front (?) - but eventually we'll get used to them in urban areas, and wonder what all the fuss was about.

'15mph'? They're easily clocked to take them over 30. You're only allowed to ride a private one around your garden in any case. If you want to be a kid again just get a regular scooter and take your chances in the road.

Typical Sue post.
Here is the email link for those who think it is worth the effort.

Ha, ha, ha. Remember the River Dour Greenway?
https://www.dover.uk.com/news/2011/work-begins-to-develop-river-dour-greenway
God knows how much it cost but it was never even designed to Sustrans minimum standards and still peters out unsigned half way along a footpath heading towards Buckland Mill.
There is SO much free money around for anything labeled 'cycling' or 'sustainable' it is unbelievable.
My suggestion when I was on the council was for an off road 'Sustrans standard' link from seafront to Kersney Abbey usable by pedestrians, bikes, mobility scooters etc and build upon this 'spine' to put out 'shoots' to Buckland, Tower Hamlets, Folkestone Rd etc.
Meanwhile the Muppets were transfixed with paying 'consultants' mega-money to give them Power Point presentations of £15 million Rapid Bus scams, Land-bridges over the A20 and the ski-lift to the Castle!
Vote stupid, get stupid. At least with the Conservatives in charge they haven't renamed the River Dour Greenway 'Nelson Mandela Way'.

On the subject of money for nothing, anyone remember what happened to the £3/4 million here?
Dover and Shepway district councils’ ‘green points’ scheme, which will reward residents making pledges to recycle more with points that can be exchanged for discounts in local shops or donated to chosen charities, and the installation of reverse vending machines (£720,486)
2015?

Except, every action being discussed on this thread was initiated by that blighted party. Ideology before need or practicality. Vote stupid get stupid indeed.

I was never a great fan of either Corbyn or Abbott although they were much maligned by the main stream media. But compared to Laughing Boy and Pretty Vacant, they now seem a lost opportunity. FFS!

Your government puffs and dribbles like a pursy drunk, lurching from gin house to whisky bar, fouling clean air and vomiting on strangers. And you say, 'Yeah, but...' and 'What about...?'. Deary me, I'd demand better from my defenders.

What did it say, SN? That the lane was too late, or that there are too few barriers, or too many, or that they're made of the wrong material?

Sue
Could make the humble suggestion to include all from Mrs Beresford if your going to go that far.
I have to say in our community I would be surprised if anyone knew knew who Mrs Beresford is.
She hadn't come near our association since being elected or been seen anywhere near the ward.
But like you say she will come out of the wordwork like other county cllr who turned up at the assoc for the first time since it's formation in 1980 !
For a photo opportunity
But like you say it's non political lol
