On my trip to Morrisons this morning there and back not a bus or cycle in sight but chock-a-block with cars creeping along on Morrisons side.
Any councillor wanting my vote must be against this unnecessary ill thought out bus/cycle lane.

It derives from this government 'initiative', which was all over the media in May. Don't you remember the cycle vouchers, and GPs 'prescribing' cycling as a cure-all?
Guidance will '
tell [my italics] councils to reallocate roadspace for significantly-increased numbers of cyclists and pedestrians. In towns and cities, some streets could become bike and bus-only while others remain available for motorists. More side streets could be closed to through traffic, to create low-traffic neighbourhoods and reduce rat-running while maintaining access for vehicles.'
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/2-billion-package-to-create-new-era-for-cycling-and-walking
Funding's in two phases, the first for 'temporary' pandemic projects, the second for longer-term projects. (The Dover scheme's a bit tardy to be in the first category, as the pandemic finished ages ago, and the epidemic was over in May.) KCC was allocated £1.6m for phase 1, and £6.4m for phase 2.
And, just for BD's attention, 'a further push is being made to encourage drivers to purchase an electric vehicle.' I'm certain the slaves in the DRC's cobalt mines will be happy our government's raising our 'environmental consciousness' to a higher level.

Maybe they could close my road to reduce the rat-run that this new layout is already starting to create.

No surprise to find that on the 1st day there’s a problem on the A20, the traffic is backed up to Crabble Hill and up Green Lane towards Melbourne Avenue.
As well as the A2 being clogged up with lorries beyond Whitfield.

Yet around 11am I drove from Whitfield to St James via Melbourne Avenue and Barton Road, then past the new bus lane, with no traffic hold-ups at all and nothing using the new lane at all!

Interesting to see same problems happening in London. I believe 18 MTH 'experimental' zones can be set up without public consultation etc. Anybody know?

The answer appears to be 'yes, they can'. See this, under 'Other considerations': only 'permanent' measures need prior consultation, not 'experimental' or 'temporary'. That's how I read it

I agree buses are important for a lot of people but in Dover are no more important than any other means of transport.
But the minority users are being favoured by this unnecessary bus/cycle lane which has inconvenienced the majority.

Just wondering if this now means we will see enforcement action against people cycling on the pavement up London Road

Great. I hope you will encourage them to stick to the roads and not use the footways. That is, of course, illegal.

In case you wondered why the Air Ambulance landed, I have just read this posted by a reliable friend. I will make no other comment at the moment except to say I hope the motorcyclist is ok and I feel for the car driver as probably not his/her fault.
"Just witnessed a motorcyclist get knocked off his bike opposite in the bus lane. He went straight into a car that was turning up Albert Road. While outside waiting for the ambulance we had car drivers going past leaning out their windows and shouting at him about how he deserved to crash because he had been driving round like an arsehole. What are people on. You never wish that sort of harm on anyone."
