So who came up with the idea of a bus and cycle lane in Maison Dieu Road and what did the public know about it before it was implemented? If any councillors (county, district or town) knew and didn’t do anything to stop it, they should explain why. It is bound to cause accidents not to mention long delays for traffic using the remaining lane. I would like to be proved wrong but I doubt it.

A nice idea if you are sitting at a desk miles away but a daft idea in practice as well as not needed. I have read KCC had money they had to spend within a very short time, how true this is I do not know.
There is already a shared cycle/pedestrian path by Morrisons that is hardly used and I have already seen a picture of a car completely blocking the pavement near the pub.

So this decision has been made by someone who clearly should sacked from their job immediately
Halving the capacity of the main road through the town for cyclists - who already have a cycle route along the whole stretch is just crazy

Maybe they think creating congestion where there was none will convince us to cycle or use the bus, idiots of the highest order.
However I'm sure our county cllrs will be addressing this with the usual vigour we have come... yeah I guess we will be stuck with it.

What I was wondering, is what happens when a bus wants to turn right into either Pencester or Castle Street, or as a car, we want to continue straight ahead towards the seafront? I can see a lot of ‘cutting up’ happening. Does not seem well thought out at all

Haven't seen it yet.
I said the same thing when they widened the Barton Road pavement between Beaconsfield and Limes Road, supposedly as a cycle path. Barton Path is literally a stones throw away and is/was already a cycle path. Effectively turned that bit of road into single lane and took away parking spaces.
I see Bridge Street is up for overnight closure soon. Hope it's to sort out the drainage by the bridge. They'd only just sorted it out there and then they resurfaced the road and managed to fill all of the drainage holes with tarmac

I'm sure the bus drivers will be delighted at getting stuck behind whoever is the slowest cyclist! I drove along it last night, and (given the right-hand lane will now be much busier) there won't be many opportunities for them to overtake.

It really is ridiculous. I predict traffic backing up to at least Barton Road, if not up to River. Saw this happen before because a single window cleaner had his ladder in the right hand lane near Castle Street. Now it's effectively the whole street full of ladders. How tf have they justified this?

Not as if we have that many buses to even justify it,we,re not a city, will be interesting when the bin lorry turns up for the few houses along the route.I,ve seen that bring traffic to a total standstill the whole length of Barton rd and Buckland ave.

aAndy .If you used the buses you would know how many run an hour .Three an hour from Canterbury .Three from River .I think three from Whitfield One from Temple ewell.Im not so sure from TowerHamlets .Several from Folkestone .Then there are school Buses.
Try going over St Radigunds on a bus held up by a dust cart .
