People belittle themselves by trading insults on a forum like this. It might not be so bad if the insults were at least a little witty. The DTC obviously is not held in high regard by the townsfolk but there are better ways to hold its members and officers to account than personal attacks. If people think DTC are no good they should get together a public meeting and propose a parish poll on a motion of no confidence. If passed, that might induce DDC to abolish the town council and take over its responsibilities, as is its prerogative under the law.

Peter, I don't think that would ever happen, DDC would have to take back responsibility for public conveniences.
Considering this issue is about respecting war dead, I can imagine what those who are honoured by the memorial would think about the words being used in the campaign to honour their memory.

Howard McSweeney is deliberately provocative on many sites and I find it unseemly and ungentlemanly as well as tiresome. I do not agree with gutter language but if his aim is to get a reaction at any price, it would appear he is somewhat successful.

Peter thank you for that post. I wonder how many people, like me, were unaware of the actions they could take if they're not happy. Seems like a sensible thing to do, and in a civil way too.
Ray that is naughty, but funny too
Pauline - I cannot see why you and the other two ladies are picking on Howard. Is he not allowed to voice his opinion like the rest of us?
At the end of the day, as Ray says, this is about honouring our war dead. I wonder if the ones who are still alive find this funny or insulting - would be interesting to know. I would imagine they would find it mildly amusing.

There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

Jacqui, to be fair Howard does appear at times appear to be provocative on other sites, although some of his comments have made me smile as there is quite a bit of truth behind them.
It is easy to give an opinion without resorting to insults something we should all try to remember at times.

Sometimes poking gentle fun at the stance of one's detractors is a better way to defuse arguments than outright insults, which are bound to escalate disputes. Ray is a past master at such tactics.

Jacqui, firstly I am not part of a clique 'picking' on Howard. I have no idea who the other two ladies are that you mention, this is just my own opinion.
Maybe Howard finds it amusing to pop onto a blog site, toss in a hand grenade comment and wait for the flak. Sometimes this is amusing but very frequently I find them really unedifying and unnecessary.
Peter, I agree poking fun is far better than outright insults but this can be a fine line, one Howard would do well to remember.

At long last.
It would be appropriate if the flag was to start flying on Easter Sunday to reflect or remember the resurrection.

Daft place to put the pole, whoever thought that was the correct place to put the pole wants their brains tested.
It will cost DTC a fortune to keep replacing the flag that will soon be tattered after hitting the DTC building, It also looks like it is there to honour the DTC rather than commemorate the centenary of WW1.
