In the US you register to vote with your social security number and produce ID to get into the polling booth. Why can't we do similar?

does anyone know when the results will start to come through, polls close at 9 pm our time?
with the huge size of constituencies it must take a lot longer than general election counts.

the returning officer in our constituency says that an announcement will be made soon then the parties can demand a recount.

Different to what I was expecting.
New exit poll projections
Exit poll from the European Parliament now puts the main centre-right grouping on 211 seats, compared with 265 in the outgoing parliament, and the socialist group on 193, slightly up. Eurosceptic parties would get around 129 seats.

There seems to have been a few countries like the UK who are going against the way Europe introduced rules and laws which overturn a country's own laws and custom.

The media have portrayed the results as a swing to the right but on closer examination the vote was mainly for Euro scepticism.
Left wing parties won the day in Spain, Portugal and Italy and there was strong support in Greece and over here.

So why did they vote against the European union?

Because the EU has imposed austerity upon them, Howard. Simples.

It seems certain that a former prime minister of Luxembourg will be the next president of the European commission.
He may well be a clever bloke but running a country with a population equivalent to just 2 London boroughs suggests that this is a big leap for him.
