He then concluded with the following:-
4.0 DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS
4.1 The total number of species recorded at the site is small by comparison with
the potential number of species that might be recorded given more time and
additional visits in which to undertake the work, possibly over several years:
however, short surveys such as this are good at giving a ‘snapshot’ of the
ecological value of a given site and showing which species require more detailed
survey. In the light of this situation, therefore, the numbers of species of all
groups that have been recorded at this site is adequate for the purposes of
initially assessing the biological diversity of the site.

Just to keep the thread up to date a Kent Wildlife police officer will visit the Westmount site tomorrow together with Dover Demolition. If he is called away to attend something else happening nearby the inspection will take place on Sunday.

Any more news on this Howard, did this Police Officer get there, we need to keep up the pressure, trees are still being uprooted, these firms just seem to do what they like

Last I heard Sheila was that the site meeting planned for last Sunday didn't happen as the keyholder for the site couldn't make it. The officer rang me that evening to keep me up to speed but have not heard anything since.

Had a call this morning from Kent Wildlife Police to say that the ecologist who originally surveyed the site in 2008 spent 3 hours yesterday combing the site and it appears that there are live setts there. Further discussions will take place with DDC planning department and enforcement officers.

That's good news Howard, lets hope the Housing company get a very large fine, they should also be done for saying they had planning permission for 100 houses, which was stated in the Dover Express, when the permission they did have was for 97 flats and houses, which included the house being converted into the flats, so by pulling the house down that would have thrown those plans out of the window, also those plans had expired in the April and the house was taken down in the November

The site is now derelict, all trees uprooted and wildlife forced out yet no sign of anything happening there for a couple of months and no planning application has been lodged. Mr Rix still has some equipment on site though.

Under the thread Marian Munt RIP. There is a photograph of a much younger Keith Sansum and Marian Munt in front of the Westmount Building.
Frankly this was a wonderful building and lovely surrounds. In classic Dover Symphony and chaos. No-body knowing which foot was dancing the most, the left or the right. Protection and listed notices to the hilt.
Raised to the ground, with the usual oohhh, ahhhh, shock and awe.
Now a bland, a terrible blight, where there was once a delight,
Guess what, not one councillor, not one anything, did lift a finger to save it, its wonderful trees and landscapes.
Unreal - Gone forever - a unique space in time.

There should have been a fight to save it but I seem to remember it was owned by KCC though I am ready to be corrected. What I do know for a fact is that the building was not listed, the powers that be(Historic England I think) concluded that the interior was of no interest.

Has permission been granted again for the trees to be cut, as someone was there today cutting down with a chain saw, has the badger sets been moved for them to do this

I didn't think there were any trees left for the Mayor to cut down and I believe the Badger setts were destroyed long ago.

2 or 3 months of the Mayor left.
Has he done anything yet?
Rubbished Westmount College and vastly increased his own house and holdings up at Astley Avenue.
How lucky are we Dover people: Nonod:

Looks like the website for the developer for the site (and the Dover Priory car park) has gone dead.
Not a good sign?

Forget Peter Wallace he doesn't seem to get involved with ward activities nowadays due to being busy at work. His Holiness is ideal in my view as he has started/involved in things that need a lot more than a year to come to fruition.

I think he should be encouraged to carry on the work he has started Sue(except for Westmount), my support is unconnected with us both being in the same lodge.
