Whilst as iv said before barryw and i share some views on the benefits system
what we are seeing is people in jobs, being thrown on the scrap heap
and upwards of 4 million is not something we should be happy with

My comment was regarding the shake out of those hidden unemployed on incapacity that are boosting the jobless figures. Not happy about anyone losing their job but that happens when the economy has been screwed into the ground after 13 years of poor financial management. It takes time to restore economic fortunes and it is never a painless process.

This is why Osborne needs to really go for growth, speed up deficit reduction, drop the 50p rate, cut corporation tax, get shot of a whole raft of employment laws that make it hard to sack people, reduce taxes on jobs etc.... What must be done to create growth and jobs are exactly the opposite of what you would want Keith.

Barry, the Government's dismal employment record is daily losing them support among the masses. It seems they don't have a clue how to go about boosting the economy.
At least that's what it's seeming to more and more people.

The confidence is growing that George is set to reduce the 50p rate. Doubtless, from all that I have been told about this particular issue, growth will surely follow hot upon the heels of such a change.
So...deep breath come Budget day?

While I think about it...
I am perhaps, not the first to place the phrase, "Something for the ladies." and the name "BarryW" together, but on viewing the current front page I did notice this...

Jobs will keep going to the chinks and India
Money will keep flowing out of the west
The west will keep borrowing to keep going till the next crash,
until eventually the west stop trading and trade embargos go up to stop unrest and revolution at home

Keith, protectionism does not work and what we have to do is ensure we can compete. We can do so by ensuring that the burden of government is removed from our businesses. That means a lot smaller government taking up no more than 30% of GDP and a huge cut in rules and red tape. One day the message will sink home. At the moment our government are just playing around the edges with spending cuts and cutting red tape and need to get serious.

If we quit the EU and sent back 2 million EU workers we could drastically cut unemployment
Barry you cannot compete with people working for dolour a day.
When these country start offering finical services on top of manufacturing lookout
I do agree on red tape, a monster of over health and safety and over training courses burdening business, these morons have even band steps and ladders on construction sites .

Keith - the economics are more complex than merely the low wages in some countries. You get no argument from me about getting out of the EU and that body adds huge extra costs to our economy with no real significant benefit. You will get an entirely false trade argument from pro-Europeans of course that holds no real water.
You need only to look at the patterns of world trade and manufacturing now to see that we could compete if we did not follow the expensive European socio-economic model of high taxation and government intervention. We need to get away from the destructive drug of high spending governments and allow businesses to compete with the more efficient economies where they do not suffer from big government.

Barry, the unemployment problem in Britain has nothing to do with high taxation.
Pay £6.13 to a Brit or to a non Brit is the same in terms of taxation.
Many private sector factory and farm employers in South East England won't dream of employing a Brit because we can barely survive on that sum of money, so we won't be happy.
They know this, and deduct from that, that we'd be less enthusiastic at work, and would complain among each other about it, agree to form a union and ask for a wage increase.
Keith B is absolutely right.

Keith (S) - oh really - well it is your big government that has got us into the mess we are in. You need only to compare how economies are doing to see the difference between those held down by excessive government spending and intervention and the rest.
