i thought there were about ten indie town councillors andy, chris is definitely one of them, he has a keen dislike of party politics.

Concerning Council elections, in which I sincerely hope Vic will also stand as candidate, although they will be in May, it's good to dedicate full efforts to them already now! Dover is special.

David H and his group are called The Dover Alliance; the only true Independant, is Jenny Morgan, all the others belong to a party of one sort or another.

A number of Town Councillors support the blues at District and National elections Vic. Nothing new there - some even support the Labour party at District and National elections too.

not totally true vic, keith was a very active district and county councillor before chucking it in, roger is an active district chap and sheila is the same at town level, all of them have a party label.
the rest are best forgotten, the one that replaced keith has been a total washout. aside from being a district rep for us she is a town council member for somewhere else.
she promised to work for better street lighting and loads of other things that are nothing to do with the town council.
gave us all a good laugh locally.

You've forgotten Marian Munt Vic.
Marian has represented Labour for Maxton, Elmsvale and Priory at District for many years, more years than I have, I believe.
Marian has been a hard-working and caring person for many years - as someone once said, it's the person not the party people should vote for at this level; the person who Howard was referring to, does not not come round here, but was voted for because of the colour of her flag.

There are four "Dover Alliance" town councillors and we are not allied to any other party. Jenny, for whom I have the greatest respect, is a member of the Conservative Party although not representing them on the Town Council where she is independent.
Marian is a long standing district councillor for the Labour Party but very much her own woman and long may she remain so.
Yes the Dover Alliance has meetings, where we discuss recruitment and campaign strategies. What we do not do is decide on how our members should vote, that is always up to each individuals own perceptions of what is best for their ward and the town. Of course when we meet up we will talk about what is happening in the town and the challenges facing the council, but no more or less than we do when we meet up with fellow councillors of other 'parties'. How members of the Alliance vote in elections, or who they support in those elections is entirely up to them but in council our stand is always independent of party politics and purely driven by the best interests of Dover.
(Andy, nice long and hugely defensive post on the 'singles' thread - thank you for making my point.)
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.
