Sue, Dover is an ancient and proud town and deserves so much more than a spat over whether a recently (relatively speaking) formed administrative organisation's relatively new crests are displayed or painted over by an organisation that is entirely separate from the Town Team. I think that people generally would say that they are Dovorians, or from River, Deal, Whitfield, etc. no one would describe themselves as coming from the Dover District.
Personally, cost allowing, I'd like to see all the street furniture in Dover Town painted blue and displaying the crest of Dover Town - the District and its Crest are a modern concoction which have little or no personal resonance. But I'm not a councillor of any kind and have no say or input to the colour of the Town's street furniture or the crest that it does, or doesn't, display.
That said, the blue street furniture is DTC and not the Town Team. The Blue Birds and Town Team are merely trying to deliver something positive in the Town, with a modicum of success to date. If there is a genuine problem with the street furniture, then DDC should take this up with DTC and not throw insinuations at a business led and positive set of, non-street furniture related, developments in Dover Town.
Of course the Town team cooperate with the Town Council, as it does with the District Council; the Town and District Councillors for Dover are Dovorians and the Town's directly elected representatives, most of the Town Team are local business people who want to deploy their knowledge and experience and give their time to get on with delivering positive things in Dover rather than watch the town continue to decline whilst waiting on the delivery of DDC's long promised, and as yet undelivered, major developments.

Hi David, Neil and any other rare examples of sentient beings on the Dover mothership (destination: Oblivion),
I am reading this thread with my jaw repeatedly clanging on the ground at the relentless streams of unmitigated arrant nonsense promulgated by our area's status-obsessed officialdom.
Glad you and a few others do bother, David, but I totally sympathise with your exasperation.
Talk about fiddling while Rome burns (same goes for the recent seafront Bogwatch).
Let them eat paint...

Well put Neil.
With the exception of the articulate and engaging Kevin Charles, Cllr Nicholas is the only regular contributor to the forum from DDC these days. Although I find it difficult to believe that DDC's reputation could sink any lower, it appears that Cllr Nicholas is singlehandedly doing her best to alienate people even further.

I am accountable to my paying customers. Local taxpayers are your customers.
I am sure there are people at DDC reading this and shaking their heads, it is astonishing that you are so oblivious to and unaware of public opinion.

Work - yes, about 90 hours a week (70 of which are spent running my own business, the rest on voluntary community activity). Just finished dealing with New Zealand ports this morning and will start with the Americans in 10 minutes when they've finished their morning meetings.
Hate? No. But 20 years plus of apparently unchecked decline and dereliction perpetuated by shining, but undelivered, promises breeds a certain level of cynicism.
Also accountable to my paying global clients.
If Ely and Margate have well maintained black street furniture - good for them. Dover's black stuff was tatty, Dover Town Council's decision for blue is positive and smart, also now well maintained, so, good for Dover.

Simon, you read this stuff with your head outside the window? 'Cause I'm sure the chewing gum isn't on your office floor - plenty on the pavement though

I am astounded that someone has the audacity to write such tosh as I have just read from a DDC Councillor and she wonders why we have little respect for some DDC representatives.
All this because of a bit of blue paint that might not be there if DDC had maintained the bollards etc properly.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Firstly as I have been mentioned in dispatches (!) I think I should make it clear that I post here as a resident and the views expressed are my own.
Secondly, I am not surprised at all that Dover is seen in a positive light. Like most towns and cities there's always room for improvement, but as a port town, I like to think we give a warm welcome to visitors and the town has much to commend it.
I helped some cruise passengers a couple of weeks who were waiting for a bus that wasn't going to arrive!

i never knew you were with the council kevin, mind you we are all tainted in some way.
on a more serious note i can only remember the late and much missed ken baker being a ddc officer and member here.
ken's knowledge of the natural world and classic cars was unmatched as were the photographs he took.

Certainly don't feel "tainted", Howard. Proud to have been associated with all the organisations I have worked for in both the public and private sectors.

Having just been down town around the Town Hall, I thought I'd take a look at the blue paint reported on the roof thereof earlier in this thread.
Are you serious Sue or have you become an internet troll? It is undercoat and clearly so. It does not match the shade of blue used by the DTC for the street furniture.
