Yes it does Vic, the DHB's exemption only applies to port operational areas. A temporary structure can only be there for 2 months.

I wonder if Trading Standards would be interested, false advertising springs to mind if they do not give out tourist information.

Richard is (naturally) promoting his boat and bus tourism business, but he also has leaflets and brochures on many other attractions; why take that facility away ?
He has been the object/subject of ridicule since it was put up, but it does provide a useful service to tourists - my main gripe would be how often it is open and how knowledgeable are the people who sit in the box ?

I think Roger ,I would know more about Dover then most,I agree it has not been open as much as it should have been, but that was cause by myself,I let Richard down by not being there as I said I would be. But I have had alot on this year, but still hoping that I will get it open over the coming weeks,As you said it was not put there just to promote Richard and the boat business, there are many brochures about what goes on in Dover and the Parishs around it,+Bus and train timetables, but there is nothing stoping some of you who keep on about the opening hrs coming to me for the key and doing afew hours yourself.I am sorry to say there are far too many of you that just sit back and keep on what is done and what is not done in Dover but do nothing yourself. But again that is not all only some. If that upsets you what I have said, sorry but they are facts.

If half the members on the Dover Forum done a few hrs we could man it 8/hours aday seven days aweek, but we all know that would not happen.

The fairest solution is for the people whose businesses are being promoted to club together and arrange the manning.

How many times do I have to tell you it is not there to promote any one Businesses or outlet.
Richard M...says that he has placed this box in situ...it was his idea, and is there at his expense.....therefore he pays for it totally.....
As a favour to Dover...........
To do what nobody else does in Dover....ie..the tourist information etc....

Wonder if they provide info on the other Dover boat trips the Sea Safari?
Audere est facere.
Richard M....is not happy about them at all
Which is why I feel the tourist info should be a level playing field with no vested interests.....
This Box is not unbiased............go and smell the coffee Mr Matcham

There are none so blind as those that do not see...........or should that be choose not to because of their own bias. If it was a genuine information service the lady would have known what was on #69 I quote..........
.....if I say, people were enquiring on Sunday, to the lady sitting inside...looking very bored...what was the activity on top of the Western Heights...."no idea"....she replied, then got up and locked up!! drove away....

JHG #73 says it as it is, a blatant advertisement for boat and mini bus trips for a private enterprise, other than that it a useless service to tourists, it needs to be removed from our beautiful seafront once and for all.

And the Visit Kent infomation desks at Cruise Terminal 1 and 2 that promotes Kent and we hold Richard's information and Sea safaris along with maps on Dover and Canterbury info on 0ver 100 sights in the County including the Castle, but the main thing we push is the Dover Town Guide in the Visit Kent leaflet.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

I see with all your talk that not one of you have taken up my offer to put a few hours in there yourself, and I think that says it all.
