  Re #19 I wondered that Howard? possibly DHB have give it free location on the sea front but that would be out of character

  There is a gentleman...I have noticed who has a Tourist Barrow/Stall...in the Market Square...when the Cruise Ships are in....
  
  He is vibrant, knowledgeable and very helpful....Tourists I have spoken to, have remarked on this....Also, he has no vested interest, other than to impart helpful knowledge to people....Excellent for the Market Square....However
  
  Huge Cruise Ship in this am.....many people with large suitcases (wheelies etc), some quite elderly. Thus arriving at the said Information Beach Box.....for a standard of information as described in the Market Square....
  Oh Dear...SHUT........yet again
  
  "How, do we get to the Cruise Teminal from here?" they ask.....you have to walk...... we say
  
  Over the bridge.....up and along, the next roundabout, then down again...
  A long trek.....no help...no transport.....Dover Hospitality yet again...and how long have the cruise ships been coming here?

  the chap in market square is horace, i believe that he gets a small retainer from either the town or district council.
  
  there is a bus service to the cruise terminal from market sqaure that also covers the castle and town.

  Horace Holyer - he is indeed a great welcomer for tourists and cruise passengers alike.
  He also speaks several European languages and is very knowledgable about Dover and its history.
  As Howard said, there is a bus that takes people back to the cruise terminal.

  Dover is certainly a mish mash of do gooders including me. (and I don't mean that in a bad way, we need these people). it just seems to me there is no one holding it all together and pointing it all forwards in the right direction, expelling and information gathering.

  As you say Roger, there is a bus for passengers from the terminal to the Castle and Market Square and back, but, Is there one from Eastern Docks .....No! Is there one from the station ...... No! Madness!

  I agree Barry; there isn't one to take them round to our historic sites and attractions either, although having said that, Richard Mahony does offer a bookable trip round to certain ones on his "White Cliffs Bus Tours" bus, but doesn't do Crabble Corn Mill, the Transport Museum, Roman Painted House, Battle of Britain Memorial or Samphire Hoe.
  
  I did try talking to him about a number of initiatives, including taking on the Historic Walks of Dover, also picking people up from their hotel/guest house and taking them round to all the sites, including the above, sadly he wasn't able to accommodate them.

  Hi Charlie I am very new to the town.
  Have been tourist,visitor,passanger on linners, those through dover also.
  
  Have tried to use this INFO BOX quite a few times throughout this year................
  USLESS.................
  
  Asked about rib "don't know anything about it we were told etc........................
  
  Have now kept eye on it for last month.
  
  Have also found out that it has nothing to do with tourist info in Dover ???????????????????????
  
  . What is going on??????????????

  Tourist Office at Old Town Gaol by Town Hall and at the cruise terminal,I have nothing against Richards Tourist Box but do they supply all infomation or just Richards Bus/Boat tours.
  If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

  Shuttle bus not allowed at the Train Station as some Cruise Liners (the cheaper ones) supply them and it would affect the Taxi trade,so I was told.
  If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

  It was so unsightly between the two swimmers arms...but, hey, think...only in Dover can you have a Tourist Box...that is....think not actually a tourist box.....but only to push one persons' business certainly funded by us....... the Council that is......public money etc.....
  
  Manned by "volunteers"....so hardly manned.... everything is so split, unco-ordinated,and un-accountable.....no-one know their T's from their A's...
  
  
  Have we a Tourist Board/Department? .....Always you need such information to be apart from commercial gain......because who knows what is being told?

  bit of both charlie, when it first arrived between the swimmers this forum was overheating with posts.
  
  if it had stayed there much longer there would have been a forum posse wearing balaclavas going down there with axes in the dead of night.
  
  the main body of opinion is that it promotes a private business and appears to be there rent free.

  I've got a good idea - bonfire night is coming soon - chop the bloody thing up and donate it to someones GuyFawkes night celebrations! Then give young Horace all the help he needs to enlarge on his information barrow. He seems the ideal person to do the job if he's multi lingual and knows Dover so well. I don't know him but he obviously cares about the town and its visitors and should get a wage and premises to do his excellent work - GO HORACE
