I have put this in quotes, because I observe this is merely a subsidised venue for promoting a commercial business, which makes serious money. Thus ,blatently selling and promoting Harbour Boat trips/Rover tours/Cafe food/alcoholic drinks... etc. etc....a profit making business, receiving public money in grants etc...... and not as presented............
Independant information tool... for the purpose of promoting Dover etc....and present people with choices about what there is to do etc.............also a publicity outlet about events happening....the Rigid Inflatable Boat trips...etc.
Today....Sunday...... The Lions Dover Publican Walk....needing many people about to collect contributions for their Charity.......a busy day, with people looking for Independant informative guidance
"Tourist Information Box"..........Closed

Mr Norman. You can always put your own name forward to help run it.As I said no one gets paid to help run it and the lady that does it in the week needed a day off. As i said I have a key but at this time I do not have the time to put in there. But if you would like to help please put your name forward.

vic
no-one doubts the probity of you and other volunteers, what charlie is saying is that the kiosk seemd to be aimed at promoting a private business rather than the whole town.

The whole town can best be viewed (commercially) as a collection of private businesses, Howard.

You only have to aske what you need to know about or whats on or where to go in Dover and you are told or even given amap even down to bus and train times, what more is there, also you can find out where to go in the other towns etc, the zoo times it is all there, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS ASKE.Also talking about Richard he has his own Bus,s they will take you anywhere. But then you have to pay.

I've heard a lot of people call it the booking office for the boat trips etc run by the owner of said business. Totally agree with Charlie Norman, this man knows what he's talking about.
I hope the Lions walk went well and raised lots of money for charity. I only knew about that from reading it on DF!
This "tourist information box" as its called is really just an advert for this mans business, not for Dover. Leaflets for places to visit in Dover are available at the docks, local hotels, guesthouses, the cruise terminal, travel agents and the Dover bureau de change, all places easily accessible to anyone - do we need the wooden box?

Hi Charlie Welcome.
Vic makes ALL of the threads his own, I think the 5th September will be made a public holiday.
