How do you know that?
It's all still very vague 2 months in. Do the various timescales refer to re-opening the railway or just re-building the wall?
The sea wall veers away from the railway and also freight trains are running along part of the track where the wall is supposedly unsafe.
Also what is going on in the approach to the Tunnel? A lot of work if the line is going to be dug up.

I've just read on Dovermarina.com that work on the beach side has now stopped - as planning permission has to be obtained for anything more than the immediate remedial works.

I heard the same from a well placed source, Ray, who mentioned a further four month delay.
At this rate the line will not be back in action this time NEXT year.
Can anyone tell us what is going on with this utterly priceless price of inrastructure?
We were supposed to get it back by today...

Someone I know who works for Network Rail but not on this, reckons the work will take a year to complete.

Don't shoot the messenger but listening to people that know more than I ever will about the history of the line, geology and pure business thinking there is a strong view that further delays will be made until it reaches the stage that total costs weighed against fares paid would be anathema to the shareholders of Network Rail. Rather ironic as our taxes go to helping the service run.

Having worked on that line off and on for some years I can tell you that all way along that line to Folkestone there are parts that could be unsafe the tunnels are what is call wet tunnels that means water comes in 24/7 even in good weather, so all of the line must be looked at before they can open to the public again sorry but I think they should close the line or make it as I said before a single track.This is base on my views only and should be seen as that, I do not know anything about the work being done at this time only what all of us can see

Trains have run through the tunnels for over 160 years. They are probably no more unsafe now than they have been for decades.
I think we need to be careful to separate fact from rumour.
The tunnels are totally unrelated to the sea wall issue. But fix everything while we have the chance, I say.

Andrew it is the small blocked off tunnels that are no longer in use that I was referring to.

Weren't the tunnels refurbished to allow the High Speed trains to go through?

Sorry but did I not say the tunnels will be issue as well .
Having worked that line for some years I can tell you it still might not open again .
In my view it cannot be made 100% safe .I have been saying this for some years now.there are very big issues all away along that line from Dover to Folkestone the cost of keeping it open is more then any railline in the rest of the UK.

Yes Vic it looks like you were right. It will be difficult to justify the cost if it still doesn't guarantee against further or eventual closure.

As you know we are only talking about 8 mile of track and each ins of it could be a issue and if you make one part safe it could just carry it to the next point and so on.I already think the costs runs into millions for repairs and upkeep.

It seems that since Easter work has picked up a bit and some sort of piling is about to begin. Still no official word though.
