The 17.37 St Pancras to Sandwich has 12 carriages but because of the safety issue Ross has explained, passengers have to get off the rear 6 at Folkestone and move to the front 6 before it can proceed to Dover. Usually takes about 5 minutes.

Wasn't sure whether to put this here but photo courtesy of Phil Smith is of a LNS Locomotive 45407 Lancashire Fusilier going through Samphire Hoe a day or two before it all went wrong.

So now we know who or should that be what is to blame, it was not Mother Nature after all.

Tried to download the new timetable from South East Trains without much luck but a few things stood out. Firstly between 0600 and 900 hours there will be 6 HS trains instead of 4 leaving Folkestone and all of them before 0730 hours. Secondly Ramsgate seem to have 9 over the same period but only 2 have connection with Dover. Will have to study it a bit more before I comment further.

Apologies the above have read 4 instead of 6. Moving on it must be better to use the two lines at Canterbury should the line never re-open . Regular users will know more about that than me.

I'm can't see why the line won't re-open.
Here's some recent pictures.

Of course the line will re-open - it is currently designated as a main line
The section between Minster & Canterbury currently has limited capacity and would require a significant upgrade to allow trains to operate from Dover to St Pancras

Seems ironic we gave a good portion of that Pfizer regeneration money to the Canterbury to Minster line. When that line was closed due to flooding they ran two, six carriage services uncoupled through Martin Mill which has a similar stop gap, so they could run six from Dover and six from Ramsgate.
Folkestone Commuter Group warning of severe overcrowding and only 3 trains tomorrow morning, so probably the Ramsgate services will be the best bet:

So far the replacement timetable has been a disaster - trains cancelled, services abandoned, staff unavailable/ in the wrong place / timed out etc.
It is not like Southeastern didn't have time to get things worked out

All gone very quiet on the local news media, presumably the bus/train connection is now working and that commuters are simply gritting their teeth and getting on with things.

There's been no news about a reopening date. Repairs so far just look like protection for the bottom of the sea wall.
Went to London today.
Drove to Folkestone West for the free parking and got the train from there.
Bought my ticket (Dover-London travelcard, with a Network Railcard) at Dover Priory on Friday. Because of the problem I was charged the not-high speed price.
Saved £3.70 that way. (Possibly would have saved £5.10 If I'd have bought the travelcard part separately).

Latest estimate is three months but some of the network rail bods think six. There are bus and rail connections but they often don't join up because the knock on effect of the closure has resulted in many delays and cancellations on the whole network plus train crew shortages due to rock bottom morale. I suspect if a better solution isn't found then people will start relocating away from the area.

People were talking about relocating right from the off when it looked like a February restart, all very well for those on short term tenancies but owner occupiers have to like it or lump it.
