12:4671669Also, Colin, many, many Christians were burned because of their Faith in Jesus Christ, it is not that only one scientist was burned.
Also, you may like to note that Jordan Bruno believed in God and in Christ, hence he would not be pleased to be patronised for anti-religious views!

14:4771680Alexander, it`s an historical dispute as to whether Copernicus is Polish or German, so he has been referred to as a German Pole, so you can take your pick there, but I`ve always read him as Polish, but never mind, that`s to do with the geography of the time. Regarding aliens, I haven`t said anywhere`s that they exist, my argument has always been, that due to centuries of religious teaching rammed down our throats, religious group`s are always referring to the human race as though we`re some specially chosen being, and they don`t want to consider that there MAYBE, far superior beings than us on other world`s. I don`t hate religion in the true sense, as I think it should be treated like history, and taught as an ordinary subject rather than something special. Sid summed religion up when he said it should be taught, not preached. Of course aliens can`t be acknowledged as scientific fact, until there`s a discovery of some sort, and I`ve never suggested anywhere`s they should be. I merely use the chance of aliens to get my argument over that we`re nothing special, unless of course we`re alone in this vast galaxy we`re in, but then, that would just be to make sure that we keep life going. Not sure what you mean that I maybe on a loser here, there`s no winner on either side until such time. N.B. Regarding Bruno, I`m referring to the scientific fact`s he got right and with what happened to him afterwards, regardless of who he believed in.

16:3071699Colin, it is perfectly alright to preach the Word of Christ, and to try to ban this would be an attack on Religion! Furthermore, God madw people in His likeness, and we are special. And I shall go on believing this!

18:0571704Again Alexander, I haven`t suggested banning anything, it depends on how you view the difference between teaching and preaching. I was was taught religion at school, and at Sunday school, I`d have considered that as preaching. Along with all that, I was never taught the science of the universe which I wanted to learn about, as it was known then, quite possibly because the very people who should have been teaching me, didn`t know either, and just passed on what they`d been taught before me. A good example of this was Albert Einstein`s dislike of schools and teacher`s, because they didn`t teach up to date knowledge. Why are we special? The dinosaur`s ruled the planet for nearly 200 million years, and other animals before that, were they special at the time too? We`re relative newcomer`s on the planet, and done nothing but abused it. I don`t see anything special in that. Nothing wrong in having belief`s by the way.

18:5771715Keith, this is a forum mate, and forum`s are for discussion. This thread has diversified from the original theme, but it has become very interesting for me, as I don`t know much about politic`s or public loo`s or the harbourboard sell off so can`t always comment on those, much as I would like to, but I wouldn`t dream of suggesting those threads finishing because I couldn`t get into them. It`s not a religion bashing thread this one, Alexander has been giving one view, and myself another. Like every thread on here, if we all shared the same idea`s, they`d be nothing to discuss and no forum. I`m enjoying the discussion, and getting another member`s views which I respect even if I might not agree with some of it, but sadly it`s not to everyone`s taste.

08:0971807Alexander, as you are well aware nobody is better at killing christians than other christians. During the crusades a whole christian culture (the Cathars) were wiped out because of a difference in their way of worshipping.
For nearly two thousand years 'the truth' as been whatever each sect wanted it to be and now claiming it all must be true because it has lasted so long. Of course that argument would mean it was wrong because Isis worship, sun worship and polytheism in various forms have all lasted literally thousands of years more.
Aliens are not real because I have never seen one and yet god is real because I cannot see him (her/it/them)? You just have to accept ET into your lives and hearts and you will know his goodness, you don't have to believe in him because he believes in you.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

08:1271809Christians killing Christians? Who'd have thought it? Oh, wait a minute, I know - anyone who has met another person. People kill people, and if they are so inclined it doesn't need much of a reason, and people will latch on to whatever reason is handy and most plausible at the time.

12:2971834Sorry about this Bern. While I do understand your desire to defend your faith you are stretching it to the point of every crusader, every magistrate and juror and executioner at witch trials etc and every conquistador was a homicidal maniac waiting for an excuse to kill rape and pillage. None of them would have had the excuse without there first being the religious dogma and laws to justify and promote the acts. It has to be accepted that the same zeal that sends martyrs to their deaths can also send them out to kill in the furtherance of their faith.

12:3971835I don't need to defend my faith - it's mine!! And I maintain that anyone who kills would do so under whatever pretext was to hand - sadly for many it has been religion. Not Faith.

12:4971837People stabbing each other in the guts because they disagree on what happens after you've been stabbed in the guts just seems so daft to me. But hey, I've been in the dog house already for my views.
I am actually considering worship of E.T. Let's look at the facts:
1. E.T. came down from the heavens.
2. E.T. had amazing healing powers.
3. E.T. could perform extraordinary miracles, such as making BMX bikes fly.
4. E.T. died, and then came back to life.
5. E.T.'s poster reminds us of the Creation of Adam, a powerful religious iconic image.
E.T. is obviously Jesus, and as such Jesus was an alien. I will bathe in his Holy light. However, I am torn between thinking that E.T. is Jesus, and Superman, that other famous alien. After all, Superman came from the Heavens, the only son of Jor-El, to save Mankind.

14:2571851Chris, a discussion on Religion does not include a discussion on outer-space aliens, so let's not mix up two completely different conversations.
Personally I have seen what other people might call a UFO, in various occasions, yet I never interpreted these manifestations as outer-space aliens but as angelic manifestations. hence you are not teaching me anything, and I probably know from personal experience a lot more than you concerning real-time visions!
