19:0075789What hope does DDC realistically now have of pulling off its Sim City ambitions?
The Thames Gateway development is stagnant, so why on earth do we in our backwater need all these homes? Who is going to buy them, and where will they work?
The planning was based on pre-credit crunch, blue sky thinking when the forecast is for nothing but endless raiiny days.
Back to the drawing board, methinks.

I'm unaware of the latest position of District they were to be fair to paulw only saying so many houses would be built in the District, so many in Whitfield.
Have a number been identified for whtfield now?

19:1375799i thought it was 30,000 for whitfield, never going to happen though.
the original idea was to pave the way for developers to build up to that amount, the economic climate suggests that it will be another decade before anyone thinks of building a single house there.

19:2275815Around 5,750 new homes over the next 20 years or so. It`ll be interesting to see if the current cuts affect new housing, and especially as Andrew mentions above, this Whitfield housing saga.

20:1275824It is only for development planning rules Andrew.
Whether they get actually built or not will depend on market forces over the 30 years that is the planning period. So the present economic situation is completely irrelivant.

23:5876013I think you will find that the actual figure that has been stated for Whitfield is 8000 new dwellings, which is utterly ridiculas as Andy as said who on earth is going to buy them? do the dim witted council think that people in the Dover area are going to buy them? if so we ought to be prepared for a mass of derilict housing when the masses swarm to Whitfield.
We had a door drop the other day and the wording was exactly along those lines it also clearly stated that a huge 30% was for affordable housing and, this is the interesting bit, only available to local people.

00:3876014But remember as Barry W has pointed out this number is spread over the 30 years of the planning permission which works out at 266 houses a year, if you look at it that way it really is not a lot and also 30 years is an awfully long time; we will have been through probably 1 if not 2 boom bust cycles in that time during which many if not all the houses that have been built will have been bought and sold and bought again

09:3276030#7. I have a letter we all recieved from Whitfield Parish council in front of me which came through the door on 20th. They`re doing a survey on affordable homes in Whitfield amongst other things. The number of houses to be built, and the time span involved I`ve quoted on post 7 are written out on this official letter to all Whitfield residents.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

19:3276116A lot of myths being peddled here.
The number proposed for Whitfield is around 5700 and is over 20-30 years.
Affordable housing is not necessarily social[i.e. council/housing assoc.].
If you do not build new houses then you will not have enough housing to cope with existing employment numbers, let alone employment growth.
That means people travel into our area then go home and don't spend here.
Consequence continuing poor retail and leisure options.
The market will only go where the spend is.
No chimneys, no retail etc.
It's simple.
But of course we councillors are all dim and don't understand as you so often tell us on this forum.
Love you ALL.

19:4176118that did make me smile paul, unfortunately councils will always be the butt of peoples derision.
bit of a national sport, could be worse though, think how wayne rooney feels at the moment, he's getting a lot more flak than you could ever dream of.

20:0676131We only have to look at Hawkinge to see what happens to a parish when there is over developments made and it will happen again at Whitfield if it is not stop now.
When family moved there some years ago ,why did they do it?because it was out of town they have all ready said they do not what the new house,s put there.
Sorry but if the Cllrs who say they must go there also lived there what then would they be saying?
