With the US Election just a few days away..the BBC's flagship Question Time devoted much of its programme to it last night. At great expense they flew in the former Mayor of Cincinnati...and here he is..
Yes indeed, its none other than Jerry Springer himself..the doyen of pointless talk shows, and at one time for his sins...the Mayor of Cincinnati. Not a lot of people know that!
But he was an amiable and charismatic guest who spoke much in favour of Barack Obama and in particular lauded praise upon Mr Obama's medical care initiative known to one and all as Obamacare. Colleen Gaffny, one time sidekick of Condoleesa Rice, spoke for Mitt Romney...but acknowledged herself that the entire audience seemed to prefer Obama.. that's because, said Colleen, that they "dont understand Mitt Romney". Mitt has alas alas rubbed women up the wrong way...if i can put it that way in these times of uber sensitivity...and is struggling to find votes out there amongst the female population.
The superstorm of recent times has however given Obama a new gusto and a new lead in the polls, albeit a small one. But the Mayor of New York, Michael Bloomberg, a powerful voice, has today backed Obama. Quite a ringing endorsement. It is quite clear now that the storm did not help Romney.
People in the Question TIme audience and others further afield are also worried that the world will be less safe with Mitt Romney's right wing and very hawkish finger on the trigger...with Iran being suggested as an early target. Mitt will also scrap Obamacare on day 1 if elected as "the nation cant afford it."
So there you have it...the story so far. The BBC will transmit the election all through the night on tuesday.
PS: The other big performer last night was David Miliband. I think all sides would acknowledge that he was excellent. I noted particularly how people of all sides actually listen to him..even the other panellists. Fascinating..his day may yet come.
