been watching a report on the above on the news channel, this weather has a lot to answer for.
we think we are unlucky with our politicians but the americans have it worse.
the only one with any charisma was a chap called santoro who came across as a television friendly type but not very good at answering questions on policies.
another candidate was 76, i cannot imagine anyone wanting to be president at that age.
three others are old fashioned conservatives that play the "god" card at every opportunity.
difficult to see enough of the electorate voting any of them in as president.

I have to say that I am not overly impressed with the candidate line-up. If they could find a good one, another Reagan perhaps, then the Republican could oust the useless Obama. As a natural sympathiser to the Republican Party I am very disappointed that too many of them are so captured by the religious right. A most uninspiring contest.

Keith there are no Tories in the USA. Even the Democrats are well to the right of the Tories and socialism is consigned to the lunatic fringe.

There is a grimly sounding love affair with God going in in the USA, especially amongst the political classes. All of the Republican nominees have to endorse God as their main sponsor otherwise their campaign seemingly gets reduced to tatters. Clearly research has told them that the class of voter they are appealing to, the well hung well hued conservatives..small c, need to hear this uncomfortable God message ad nauseum. Uncomfortable for us here, but clearly not uncomfortable there in the USA.
Even when Michelle Bachman, the scary right winger female pulled out...she thanked God for showing her the light.
God is okay, but He/She should be folllowed on a private basis if you wish to do so that is, and not wheeled out in pursuance of gain as these Republican politicians do at will. They're all at it. Even the latest rapid advancer Sanctity Sanctified Santorum assumes God is showing him the way and is in his own particular corner. But they all claim God as being in their own particular corner. Looks very uncomfortable to us here in the UK but research must show that the Americans lap it up. At this political level and with the amount of money they spend on their campaigns and their research...yes the Americans must lap it up.
Therefore...if God is not on your side in America.. you're doomed!

the big problem could be if the almighty prefers a mixed race president.
would love to see the bible belt talk their way out of that one.

Whilst the primaries are, even more than usual, a truly unedifying spectacle they have at least successfully demonstrated to the rest of us (if not the US voters yet) all that is truly obnoxious, corrupt and just downright wrong with with the modern Republican Party. They are a hideous collection of xenophobes, homophobes, misogynists, who seem to feel totally comfortable pouring vitriolic contempt on huge swathes of their own citizens.
The jockeying for the French Presidential election next year is much more fun, particularly as almost without exception it looks like the poisonous midget will be thrashed by whoever wins through to the latter stages (the most notable exception being the Le Pen woman)
