The Christian fundamentalists in the US are a truly worrying group of crackpots. We saw some of the consequences of their beliefs in action with G W Bush but there do seem to be some who are even more bonkers and I fear we are within a generation of them consolidating a power base.

They are indeed a worrying bunch but the good news so far is Frank Luntz respected republican pollster and strategist
says ``none of the republican candidates can beat Obama.

thankfully that seems to be the case, obama is not up to very much but has made it clear that his country would be pulling back from being the worlds policeperson.
i would translate that as fewer wars for us all to be dragged into.

Ah good old Rick Santorum - prize buffoon of the right
This is the same man who said that he didn't want to make black people's lives better by taking from other people and then denied saying it and claimed he had said "blah" people.

This great labyrinth of an election trundles on and this is just for the Republican nomination remember...not the full blown presidential event. This weekend another primary rears its head, as the dog eat dog world of American Politics roars forward.
Rick Perry, bumbling Texan, fell on his sword the other day...thanking God for showing him the light, so he wont be taking part any longer, his Texan drawl climbed back into the old worn saddle and rode off in yip yip yippeee fashion into the sinking sun.
Newt Gingridge who has had more affairs than hot dinners, was scuppered when his one time wife threw a spanner into the machinery this week.. talking to the media about Newts desire for an 'open' marriage. This kind of thing does not wash well with the high-evangelical nature of frontline politics USA style. In other words God will finish Newt!
But as we stand there are still four guys running. Newt Gingridge, Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and another geezer whose name escapes me for the moment..ah thats it..Ron Paul. I conjured it up from the dark recesses of the mind as he is clearly not on the tip of everyone's tongue. I guess Ron's a no hoper!
While all this was going on...Barack Obama stole all the limelight yesterday when he burst into song in front of thousands of supporters. He is in the other party called the Democrats in case anyone is confused...but jeez he could sing too. Twas a good and splendid moment and I bet it got all the headlines last night across wide wide America...stealing the thunder from the Republicans.
Oh I bet they could spit.. although with one eye on God at all times, spitting wouldnt look good in the eyes of the heavenly chorus of Republican voters.

Oh dear seems like a this process to choose somebody seems endless

by the time they have finished and a winner emerges you have forgotten who was in the running, if you ever knew in the first place.

Well what can you say...just when you thought the Republican nomination was safe in the hands of Mitt Romney you couldnt have been more wrong. Clean cut wholesome Mitt had some difficulties over his tax returns this week and its hit him where it hurts...right in the nominations! Despite him being as rich as Cressus he only pays 15% tax, a much lower return than you me and the US voter. They didnt like it out there and voted accordingly.
Newt Gingridge won the latest primary last night in South Carolina. I couldnt have been more wrong in Post 27. I thought the extra marital affairs would finish him off but in South Carolina God loves a sinner. He definitely loves a sinner showing evangelical redemption, and thats what they got with the battling prostrating Newt. As I said before ...in the Republican nominations you must be seen to have God on your side.
Newt got 40% of the vote
Mitt Romney got 28% of the vote, so the wheels have come off the wagon for clean cut Mitt just as he was trundling to the White House gates.
Rick Santorum was 17% and Ron Paul brought up the rear with 13%. Dear oul Ron will fall on his sword next I suspect, as the people have cast a weary deaf ear on his particular message.
Its all getting quite interesting...well sort of!

Actually if I were an American I would certainly be a Democrat. Not for me the gung-ho World Policeman policies of the GOP.

I see the pundits are blaming Mitt Romney's tax returns for the slump in his vote. So you see, people do care. If some high profile geezer is getting away with paying next to no tax when he is mighty mighty rich, then the voter wont like it. The voter likes to feel that the guy they are voting for is in the same boat as themselves. Rule one that.
Mitt's vote fell off a cliff in South Carolina and now he is on TV backpedalling on the Tax issue in a frenzied flap. Looks like he will be releasing his figures shortly, where previously they have been known to himself, God, and his accountant....and kept safely under his mattress at home....now soon the world will see all.
Mitt Romney has only himself to blame, he alone has breathed fresh life into the Newt Gingrich campaign. Newt was dead in the water a short time back, but not now. He polled 40% of the total vote, thats some going when you have four hi-profile candidates running. Its a tough business this Amercan campaigning. Dog eat dog brutality, and remember, these guys re all on the same side!
