21:2994643Barry, I decisively reject your statement that I do not understand, or grasp, the meaning of economics and economy and how finances are handled in transactions and financial operations and deals. I assume you were referring to me as well.

21:3594645Peter, I can almost feel your frustration! Vic, what gives you the right, like a tabloid, to spread muddled and uncorroborated disinformation?

21:4394646Bern, expect crowds of people to turn up to vote in the Town Hall on the motion! The word is quickly spreading all through Dover. The Press will be there, and many interested people will be standing there listening to the argumentations.

21:5694648Gosh - does one really need to "Janet and John" people through this after all the information that has been put on the various threads on this forum on this topic?
Clearly

22:0694654The vote will be on whether to hold a referendum. Nothing more. All it needs is ten votes in favour or one- third of those present, whichever is less.

22:1094656I think Peter you and the plan are on the run, even if you get the votes you need ,ten votes you saying,in the big world outside it will mean nothing.I think we will see alot of very unhappy members of the public at this meeting, was it wise to call it.?

22:3994662Bern. I do not know what you mean with that last post.
This is all turning out to one line posts only,
So unless there is anymore to add to all what has been said already,I think it is the end of the road on this one till after the meeting.

22:4294664Alexander, you demonstrate your total lack of any financial acumen, understanding, and grasp of economics with just about every post you make on the subject. Knowledable in your own mind only...

22:4394665there does seem to be a certain arrogance from the highly educated to the rest of us on this thread.
people do not need a masters degree or even 5 grade 4 c.s.e certificates to hold an opinion on issues and events.

22:4694666Opinion is one matter Howard - no problem with that, the arrogance comes from those igorant of finance speaking as if they know all about it. The problem as far as I can see is the substitution of reality for their prejuduces.

23:0594667Howard I am trying to lead the horses to the water, if they do not want to drink it, that is not my fault. We are all trying strenuously to put the merits of the bid to the people of Dover but the ignorant response from some quarters just beggars belief.

23:1294669The point is Ross is that political opinion is not an issue here.
An unwillingness to listen and to understand an important local issue, in some quarters, is the problem.

23:1494672I agree Barry this is not Political - this is about giving fair and due consideration to an option to resolve a local issue.
Sadly some people have to bring along all their baggage and wont give something that doesnt conform to their views/opinions/prejudices a fair hearing

23:1894673as i suspected, the ordinary people are trampled down for not being intellectual enough for their opinion to count.
i was fortunate having it explained in lay persons term by someone in the know, others have not been so lucky.

23:2594674Not at all Howard - every one is entitled to an opinion,
but when the arguments against the proposal are factually incorrect, because it appears people are not interested in, or prepared to take the time to read the available information or ask questions to gain understanding, surely that constitutes prejudice?
I will fight to protect the right of people to express their opinion and for myself and them to make idiots of ourselves, however that does not mean I have to or should agree with them

23:4994677Charlie's port plan implies moving the Port from State-asset status to the clutches of private magnates.

Actually the plan is not just Charlie's. It is the plan of those of us who considered the best options for the port and the best way it could be used to benefit the town and district of Dover. Charlie, Neil Wiggins, Phillip Blond, myself and a number of other people have had serious input on this matter, as well as several City firms of lawyers, financial advisers and investment banks. All said firms have so far been working pro bono for the benefit of Dover people.
