I understand the interviews take place in the next couple of days, I sincerely hope that Neil Wiggins gets the job.
DPPT is purely down to him, others have unashamedly piggy backed his determination and vision, it will be a travesty if he doesn't become an integral part of the Port.

Same here, Neil has worked so hard to reform the way the DHB behaves towards the town.
I guess it will all depend on whether common sense or jobs for the boys prevails.

Neil would be the first to put his hand up and say it was not all his own work. Charlie and Sir Patrick Sheehy put in a huge amount of time, money and effort and used their contacts to obtain hundreds of thousands of pounds' worth of professional advice for free. It was a team effort; Neil is the skipper and richly deserves the DHB appointment.

Indeed, very much a team effort. Without the support of DPPT membership and other board members, the ideas and concepts that have been promoted would not have prospered.

Of course it wasn't his own work but without Neil it wouldn't have existed in the first place.
At least one of the two gentlemen you mention has benefitted far more than Neil which is why I'm so keen for him to get the job.

Neil, what happened to the money DPPT members gave you? Will they have a vote on who becomes Community Director?

I should think that's been eaten up in various costs over time.

Hi Jack, the process for selecting community directors was decided over the course of workshop time with the DHB and the community's elected representatives, port user group and port community forum plus the Local Enterprise Partnership.
The funds raised from the purchase of membership shares that has not been used to promote the aims and objectives or to carry out the legal obligations of the DPPT are still in the bank. Each membership share certificate clearly indicates what will happen to any monies left over in the event that DPPT do not become owners of the port on behalf of the community and, with an AGM on the cards in the near future, this subject will be discussed by the membership then.
The Government decided not to sell the port to anyone and instead chose to embark on a different process towards change. Part of that process is the appointment of community non-execs and this part is going on right now. As per my opening sentence, the way in which community non-execs would be selected and appointed was thrashed out during meetings between the DHB and our elected local representatives, observed by officials of the Department for Transport. This means that a direct election of community director will not take place.

I have not been on here for a while or I would have shown my support for Neil with this appointment a while ago.
I agree with other's that Neil is the perfect man for the job, not just because of what he has done so far but because I am positive that he will continue to work hard for our communities in the future.
Best of luck Neil.
Mrs Lorraine Sencicle she should know that not everyone can be invited to speak on behalf of the communities, I am sure whoever gets the job will consult with people like Lorraine in the future which is why I find her actions a bit confusing, as she complained she was not involved then declined an invitation to get involved?
Having said that, perhaps I should not be too confused, after all, she did not consult with me when writing about the Miners Statue.

Rather surprised that the name of the "Community Director" has not been announced yet, i thought the interviews were completed last week.

I'm sure a decision has been made but it requires ratification by the full Board.

An announcement should be made today, if not the DHB have stalled the process again and Goldfield's ghost lives on in Harbour House.

The last I heard was that they would be making an announcement early in the new year.

The appointment commences January 1st. It would be a bit late to announce it on the day it begins; the poor candidate would have no time to get up-to-date with all the issues from all the new facts in hand.

DHB digging their heels in over the 1% yet the community director has not even been appointed yet.

Part of my well-reported spat with Mr Waggott at the September 'workshop' was over my attempt to make the point that by setting the DHB's community participation in stone prior to the appointment of community directors, they were putting the cart firmly before the horse. Now, with the general election only five months away, the DHB directors are surely fervently wishing for a change of government so that the community involvement issue can be kicked into the long grass again. I, for one, am not prepared to let that happen. Now that Stephen Hammond, the Ports minister who made the commitments about community involvement, has been moved on, I shall be writing to Claire Perry MP, his replacement in that role, to ask what she is doing about keeping momentum going.

They are certainly taking their time appointing the community director, are they having trouble finding someone who is easy to bully into their plans and ideas?
