I thought we were getting one and we got two, two more would serve no useful purpose whatsoever. Lets see how these two do first.

So far we actually have none. DHB are still dragging their feet and the draft Harbour Revision Order which would allow their appointment was only published last week.

And the proposed HRO bears little resemblance to what the Minister promised last April. Read it for yourself in all its glory:

Rest assured that DPPTL will be submitting a robust representation within the 42-day consultation period.

First we had the decision on community funding made before the community directors were appointed now the harbour revision order is not what was expected which doesn't bode well for the "community" port.

And then our politicians have the nerve to wonder why we do not believe they will honour their promises.

Actually Jan it's not the politicians who are letting us down here. It's the cosy relationships between the DHB officials and their opposite numbers in the DfT. Sir Humphrey couldn't make it up. Some weeks ago I submitted an FoI request asking for details of communications between DfT and DHB concerning the appointment of community directors. I am still waiting.

Without wishing to sound negative the minister has made his decision(a good one in my view) but will have moved onto other things now. Good luck with FOI request Peter but I think that the civil servants will now be looking for an easy ride.

Peter, although I know that civil servants more or less run things surely they should follow a Minister's directive rather than ignore it or are we to assume (as I suspect) the Minister did not issue the correct directive as promised.

Where do we go from here? Harbour Revision Order or not the damage has now been done and it will probably be a generation or more before any future moves from DHB will impact upon the town. The community directors are likely to be appointed in the near future now that they can't throw a spanner in the works.

DHB have submitted their revised draft HRO for consultation. No meaningful changes, in some respects it is worse than the original. It still arrogates to the DHB Board the right to decide who represents the community and provides incumbent board members with an effective veto against appointments they don't like.

So DHB are virtually just the same as they were prior to the formation of the Peoples Port, still as arrogant and thinking only of themselves.
No wonder they are so disliked by Dovorians.

All this is just hear say, and not all Dovorians think the same there some for the new build and some are not for it .
But I know when all the work is done and the pier is reopen it will be a very nice place with viewing points better then it has been in the pass.
The post of a port community director with pay is not needed already in place is the D.H.B. Forum where both the public and the D,H,B, and councils talk over what the needs are for both shipping and the public .And no I am not a member of any council or anything to do with the D.H.B. this is just my own views and time will tell if I am right or wrong.

We will all sip Pimms whilst gazing out at the cargo sheds, fork lift truck, cranes etc, all the time breathing in bracing diesel fumes caused by the extra traffic that has caused a permanent smog over Aycliffe.

Is there any further point in commenting on this, bar one we all know how the DHB work and that is completely in their own interest and F the rest of the town.
