Paris Brown, 17, was forced to apologise after appearing to use homophobic, racist and violent language in tweets posted before she took the job.
And after police revealed they were investigating whether she had committed any offence, she released a statement to say she would bot be taking up the one-year post.
"I have made the decision to decline the offer of the position of Kent Youth Police and Crime Commissioner," she said.
"I have made this decision after a great deal of thought and consultation with my family.
"As I made clear over the weekend, I accept that I have made comments on social networking sites which have offended many people. I am really sorry for any offence caused.
"I strongly reiterate that I am not racist or homophobic. I have fallen into the trap of behaving with bravado on social networking sites. I hope this may stand as a learning experience for many other young people."
She added that she felt the "recent media furore" would continue to hamper her ability to perform the job to the level required.
One of Miss Brown's controversial tweets said she was pleased her brother had thumped someone.
In another, she wrote: "Im (sic) either really fun, friendly and inclusive when Im drunk or Im an anti social, racist, sexist, embarrassing a*******. often its the latter."
Other posts seemed to refer to immigrants as "illegals" and gay people as "fags", while others appeared to endorse binge drinking."

Life can be very cruel especially when the media gets their claws into someone without the life experience or knowledge on how to fight back.-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

The trouble with a tweet is, you can't untweet it. And it can't be edited.
The very first thing an opponent will do to tumble you, is to check out your Tumblr posts. your tweets, your facebook and linkedin account. If you've had a gin too many and hit the button, they'll take you apart like a pack of cards.

We get this guff from Politicians, The Press and the Police. But from a seventeen year old about what was said when she was fourteen it's a whole different story.
Young Paris Brown will be a hard act to follow and her post much less valid now that her replacement will have to have done less than nothing in order to qualify. A good opportunity wasted, and for no better reason than the clamour of the Media. No doubt someone, way down the line of queenly succession, will step forward to be proclaimed acceptable. While for old fogies a good track record might be essential, for the youth of today;vital that they are to our future, whether we like it or not, something called 'street cred' is the order of the day.
Do you really think that the insistence upon any future replacement being, first and foremost, acceptable to the media is the best way forward? And, she was never going to be a 'police commissioner', Ms. Barnes is that, and if a Police person was able to liaise between the forces of law 'n' order and the young such would already be a done deal.
