Keith, why don't you mention the persons name, instead of ridiculous terms such as "person" and "individual" it really is kindergarten stuff. In any event you were friends with Vic at one time now you choose to use this forum to make personal jibes against him.

I see it is OK for you to give an opinion but not the rest of us.
When a person posts on here they should expect a response be it good or bad, besides if nobody replied there would be no forum just a catalogue of statements.

#34 not quite correct Howard, he was elected but unopposed as there were not enough nominations to force an election on all the councils Vic sits on (what a lovely expression!)
And to complete the record I was one of the two co-opted at Lydden to fill the remaining places.
I still wake at night with the sweats and shakes screaming Wwwwwwwwhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyy did you do let yourself do that!

ray
how can someone be elected when there is no election held?
Many years back the first independent was "elected" to the town council in barton ward when nobody else stood, i raised the same issue then.

Howard,
It's how things work at parish/town level - at the regular 4 yearly election if there are fewer nominated candidates than vacancies then they are all elected automatically. Qualifying persons can then be co-opted at the next meeting to fill the vacancies on a majority vote of elected councillors.
If a vacancy occurs during the 4 years, residents can call an election - if there is more than one nominated candidate there is an election (expensive), if there is only one candidate they are automatically elected, if there is no election call or no candidates the council can co-opt on a majority vote (and councillors will likely know well the person they are co-opting, especially as they will beholding a twisted arm behind their back!).

Howard - your post # 18...
Yes, I've weighed in on personal stuff, as you phrase it. As you're fully aware, Vic is a friend of mine and yet again taking the flak in an undeserved manner. I believe someone should stand up for Vic; were this forum even-handed then perhaps you should do it instead of me.
Tell me, exactly what do you mean by "Your Council"? I've never been a member of any council, never wanted to be, never pretended to be. So what are you driving at.......????

Ray - post # 19
Sorry, but your facts are wrong. You weren't responding to what Vic had said on this thread at all. Prior to your posts, Vic hadn't posted on this thread; perhaps you could illustrate for me exactly where "Vic had said on this thread about his past performance and future intentions..."
This is yet another example of stirring the soft and smelly. Better, as I said in the first place, you keep your in-house disagreements where they belong: in-house.

Andy, I think posts have disappeared from the thread.

No problem Andy, understandable as I was commenting on a post around #5 to #8 where Vic had come in to state the 9 or so elections that he was going to stand in next and was saying what he is doing now on his four councils.
Which has now disappeared and so it might look now like I'm having a go at him for no reason.
Hopefully now we can get back to the subject of Howard's original post.
